Update 11/12/22: Applicants are no longer being accepted.
Courts have issued orders blocking our student debt relief program. As a result, at this time, we are not accepting applications. We are seeking to overturn those orders.
The student loan debt relief program is now accepting applications, previously it was open for beta testing. For those not familiar you may be eligible for up to $20,000 in relief:
- Up to $20,000 in debt relief if you received a Federal Pell Grant in college
- Up to $10,000 in debt relief if you didn’t receive a Federal Pell Grant in college
You can apply by clicking here. You have until December 31, 2023 to apply but I’d recommend doing it now so you don’t forget.
*Sad trombone*
Guess we all have to get jobs and pay back what we owe now…
The student loan debt relief program is [not] accepting applications.

1) this program was not yet approved by the “powers that be’…2) what about a cutoff date. if my son paid back 13k and was done by 6/30/2022, is he out of luck? Who decides the dates, some fat slob politician? or a cognitively deficient ahole in the White House and his “never a bizman” aides?
It is your moral imperative to steal back every dollar you can from a thief. Guaranteed, they will steal way more than $10k from you in your lifetime through inflation and tax.
Anything you get free from the government has a cost and is usually not worth it in the long run. Sure you might get 10k forgiveness now, but will end up paying more for goods, services and taxes, so get 10 now, pay 30 later. They could’ve just reduced taxes and reckless spending, which would’ve been beneficial to everyone, but that requires some frugality on their part.
Tis the season for government cheese. https://apnews.com/article/biden-health-covid-iowa-us-department-of-agriculture-a520df60c52a704ec98098d56cf2ea18
Stupid me for actually working hard, getting a job, saving money and paying off my student loan like a responsible adult. I should go buy a Ferrari and ask tax payers to pay off my auto loan as well….
Honest question: why does it matter that the government forgives loans — or pays for any other program for that matter?
How much has the national debt increased in the past month…and what difference in quality of life have you noticed for yourself? I can’t seem to find any significant correlation between national debt and my own QoL. So from my perspective, fuck the national debt….let’s add another trillion or two or ten, it’s probably not gonna make a big difference from where I’m standing. So fuck it.
Honestly how much different would your life be if the national debt were half as much? Or twice as much? I don’t believe it’d be much different. I’m totally willing to be wrong here, but something tells me this melodrama and handwringing around national debt is overrated and off-base.
And who cares if forgiveness isn’t “earned” or “deserved” or “fair”? Life isn’t fair, you don’t “deserve” anything, right? Sometimes beneficial things happen to some people…it happens. It’s all basically random as far as I can tell. So you didn’t benefit this time, so what? It happens to all of us some of the time. Deal with it.
Anyone know if you can choose which loan token? My in-laws pay for my wife’s undergrad but we pay for the grad loans but they are all in my wife’s name. I want the $10,000 to go towards grad loans or else I technically won’t benefit. Any way to do this?
I applied with beta version but no e mail confirmation.should I apply again?????
probably
I never received any email confirmation either. I applied in the beta and the launched application.
Contact your loan servicer(s) and ask for the status of your application.
Brb converting my mortgage to a student loan so I can get free money from the responsible
My mortgage now identifies as a student loan. Respect its pronouns.
That’s called fraud.
People with mortgages literally get free money from the government.
