US Bank Sucks, IHG PointBreaks, Making Money With Raise, $25 Virgin America Discount & United Cruises

  • US Bank business card employee spend does not count towards spend requirements by Frequent Miler. Sometimes I don’t understand big businesses, US Bank has probably spend $400+ acquiring this customer and then they have thrown that relationship in the toilet because of 35,000 points. Instead of saying that this person won’t get the points, imagine the good will they would have brought themselves if they said “Here are the terms, you didn’t meet them. But because you tried to complete the minimum spending requirement in good faith we’re going to give you the points anyway”. All of a sudden you have somebody that is going to tell all of their friends, family and fellow friends the good customer service they received effectively getting yourself a brand evangelist for 35,000 points that you were expecting to pay out anyway. Instead you’ve now got somebody that is going to trash your brand whenever they can and will be unlikely to put any spend on the card anyway, so there is zero chance of you recouping the initial acquisition cost. This sort of move isn’t only bad for consumers, it’s also a terrible marketing decision. US Bank, you suck.
  • The IHG PointsBreak list has been released. Pretty weak list if you ask me.
  • Money Making Opportunity To Sell Gift Cards On Raise by Chasing The Points. Raise has been very good to me recently (and a number of readers) bought & sold ~$5,000 in Macy’s gift cards for a ~4% profit + credit card points all while I’ve been in my underpants. I find I’m doing less and less traditional manufactured spending and more and more gift card churning. Big thanks to CTP for helping me step up my game.
  • IHG Rewards Anniversary Bonus Offer-Promotion For 1,000 Bonus Points Per Stay For 90 Days by LoyaltyLobby. Not an exceptional bonus, but extra points are extra points.
  • Save $25 on a Future Virgin America Flight by Using Visa Checkout by Double Wides Fly. Shame it’s not an instant discount, but if you fly them regularly it’s still worth doing.
  • You Can Now Book Cruises With United Miles (And Why You Shouldn’t) by Miles to Memories. 0.85 cents a mile, no thank you.
