The Offer
Direct Link (if you can’t find the offer in your Upromise account, this direct link should work as well; doesn’t seem to be tied to anyone in specific)
The Upromise referral offer is back which offers $20 for referring others, and also $20 for new members:
- Refer-a-friend to the Upromise shopping portal and receive a $20 referral bonus after your friend makes a $20 purchase using the Upromise portal. Max 10 referrals for $200.
- Signup using a Upromise referral and receive a $20 bonus after you make a $20 purchase using the Upromise portal.
The offer popped up for me on the home page of Upromise.
Use the Direct Link above to refer others. Email is sent out instantly. (If you input your email address wrong, it won’t allow the referral to be sent.)
The Fine Print
- The $20 cash back offer is available for members who refer new valid Upromise members only.
- To get your $20 cash back, you must submit your friend’s email address through the link on the invitation page within 14 days of receiving the email. Your referred friend(s) must enroll in Upromise through the enrollment invitation within 30 days of receiving the invite and make a qualifying purchase of $20.00 or more within 30 days of his or her enrollment.
- A qualifying purchase includes making an eligible purchase with any of our 850+ online partners at Upromise.com, making a qualified dine at a participating restaurant location, shopping in-store offers using a registered credit card, and making a purchase using a registered Upromise MasterCard
- Your $20 cash back will be deposited into your Upromise account within 3 months of their first purchase.
- Maximum of 10 contributions per member, up to $200.
Our Verdict
Upromise pops up with this offer from time to time. The offers from last year mentioned an end-date of 12/31/15, so I’m guessing each year is separate and you can refer up 10 friends per calendar year to get $200.
Should be easy enough to meet the $20 purchase requirement. You can buy a $20 item on eBay, for example; note that all gift cards are officially excluded in the terms.
Feel free to offer referrals in the comments. Note that some people may have already done some referrals back in January, and that might have used up from their limit of 10 (assuming it goes per year).
On another note, I referred 10 people in 2015 and I never got a penny from them. The terms said that the money will come by April 2016 which has already passed. I’ll reach out to Upromise and see what they say.
Upromise helps you save for college. I save everyday by shopping online, buying groceries, and dining at local restaurants. You can earn $5.29 now by signing up and another $25 when you link a 529 plan. Take a look!

Upromise pays cashback right into your checking account, and I found them more reliable and easier to deal with than their parent company:

How does the system know that the linked account is a 529 for the bonus? Or will any account work?
Continuing the referral link chain. Thanks, all:

Your Friend get a $5.29 bonus for signing up and a $25 for linking a 529
FYI, I used a link from the previous thread on 7/3/16 and did not get credited by UPromise.
I believe this is because the links have to be used within 30 (?) days of being generated, and mine was out of that window.
I contacted UPromise and as time passed thought I would not get bonus.
Lo and behold, on 2/8/17 they finally approved the bonus, and it is now listed as pending on the site!
Yeah, Upromise is awful with these bonuses. I’ve needed manual follow-up.
Thank you for allowing us to share our links, DoC!
Thanks a lot for using link:

I quit using UPromise about 3 years ago because I found they credited things only about 30-40% of the time. I’ll sign up for a free $20 and then cash out as soon as I can, though. I use 2-3 other sites, which have a 90% success rate and decent rates. Also, I would recommend Discover Deals when possible, especially if you have the first year bonus – they are usually very competitive rates.
