In a move designed to take attention away from the Chase Sapphire Reserve changes and new Chase Sapphire Reserve business card American Express has announced that it too will be making changes to the American Express personal and business Platinum cards. Unfortunately American Express has given no details on what these changes are outside of the fact that they will be coming in the fall. I suspect that this is because American Express hasn’t actually planned changes as of yet and this is purely in response to the Chase changes.
Amex needs to come up with a Platinum+ card. Make AF $1,500-2,000 but give some true benefits that stand out.
amex could change the game if they increase AF to something crazy like $1500, but just purely focused on few heavy hitter benefits. better bonus cats. upgrade lounge – more space. better service. bring back steak. include coffee shop, dessert shop, arrival access etc. travel insurance. i dont think we need more fragmented credits. amex could def be a leader if it wanted.
So an AF increase is on the way.
Can anyone name a time that a card “refreshed” and the annual fee went down? Things only go up up up.

Sorry, tarrifs. Aluminium costs a lot to make for tinfoil hat holders
Tempted to open a business platinum after closing it earlier this year after holding it for 4. I can justify the current credits for 2025 and 2026 and then have the opportunity to gain whatever the new credits are. Would have to soon to utilize the $200 dell before July.
Business platinum has always been earlier for me to justify unlike the personal. The credits are easier to use and more so align to my normal spend.
Personal platinum would have to really change for me to be willing to hold it. Currently only hold after SUB.
wonder if this is why i couldn’t get a retention offer after multiple attempts… even outside the 13 month limit
I got off this stupid hamster wheel a while ago and will never be back unless there are fundamental value changes.
Always funny to read this stuff. Amex Green is $150 for zero benefit and a sucky card in comparison. CSP sucks too.
Cannot wait for that $7 Subway credit where it’s valid on their last 6 inch BMT on wheat bread in stock at 6:49PM on the 4th Saturday in February
Amex seems to not care about customers anymore. No more retention, all about coupons, terrible card’s offers, etc.
They might not care, but their financial documents say otherwise, with the increase of revenue, and actual 6% increase in quarterly profit compared to last year. Ultimately, we’re not their target audience, and it’s a drop in the bucket when churners drop the card because of an increased fee.
Another race to the bottom?
fk UUUUUUUUUUUUUU to all the banks. What ruins my life?!?!?!?!!!!
