Capital One Agrees To $190 Million Settlement Over Data Breach

(See updated post here)

In 2019 Capital One suffered a data breach affecting 100 million individuals in the United States. At the time Capital One stated that the information that was stolen was not disseminated but Wired later found that the stolen information was posted on a public github and that at least one person accessed that information. In August 2020 The Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) assessed an $80 million civil money penalty against Capital One.

According to The Seattle Times Capital One has now agreed to a $190 million settlement over a class action lawsuit that was filed. Currently the court is evaluating the settlement that will cover 98 million Americans.
