Chase To Launch Business Version Of Sapphire Reserve Card

Chase has announced that a business version of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card will be launching this summer.

It’s currently unclear what the benefits/annual fees on this card will be, I suspect it will be in line with the rumored annual fee increase of $795 on the personal card. One advantage of the business card over the personal card is that the business card does not report to your credit report and won’t count towards your 5/24 status.

  • Can’t wait for $10 monthly Hertz credits. They’re even throwing in bail insurance for when you get arrested from accidental stolen vehicle report

  • To answer the question "why?" . . .

As there are differences between the personal and business versions of the Amex Platinum, it would not be a surprise if there are differences between the personal and business versions of the CSR. So, beyond the credit reporting and 5/24 differences, there are reasons why a person might prefer one version of the card over the other.

  • I saw 200k points for 20k spend in 6 months as the original offer. Could’ve changed since then though

      • It did get nerfed, but the 2-3 Ink guideline refers to number of open Inks/Chase business cards. If you regularly close Inks as they age over a year old, then you can continue to ride the Ink train. Also, the threshold for the number of open Inks seems to vary on other factors such as business type, so it's possible to open more than 3 Inks depending on your profile.

      • Yes, you close old cards and open new. Right now I'm with 2 INK cards. Could apply but I'll wait for this.

        • What’s the ideal time to wait after closing ink cards before reopening and do you use the same LLc or EIN as previously used ?

          • I think 6 months velocity should be safe. Some say 3 months but really you're limited by how fast you can close older cards.

Also it's probably worth waiting till the closed card drops off the online accounts view.

          • 6 months velocity is safe, 3 months could work but having more than 1-2 ink cards and applying for a 3rd starts hitting the wall. You said you're on 2 ink cards but are you keeping them open for a year? Curious because I'm in the same boat and the train has stopped at the moment.

          • @guest_2074969 In your experience, how long does it typically take for a closed Ink to drop off? I closed a CIU two months ago and it's still there. I would have expected it to be gone by now.

  • Knowing Chase and in true Sapphire Reserve fashion it will be 80,000-100,000 MR at 1.5x. And only 80-100 because the AF is going up. I would be pleasantly surprised if it was 120-150k.

  • "One advantage of the business card over the personal card is that the business card does not report to your credit report and won’t count towards your 5/24 status."

So why doesn't everybody just get the business version?

What is the point of having a personal card, given that having your own "business" (e.g., sole prop) is so easy?

    • Because it's not as easy as they make it seem to get a business card from Chase. Whereas Amex, Citi and others don't seem to care who applies for a business card Chase will ask for lots of info, possibly talk to you on the phone and then deny you for many reasons. I got a Chase Ink card 10 years ago and have never been able to get another. P2 has never been able to get one.

      • Opposite here, between P2 and I we have gotten 7 business cards from Chase over the last 4 years, both scores well over 800. P2 is always getting notices for pre-approval for every other Ink card they don't have. The 40k referrals between us on top of 90/100k SUBs were a honey pot.

With business cards though they are much more stingy with credit limits, my limits are like a quarter or less of what my CF/CFF/CSP card limits are.

    • Because if you ever need to utilize the various insurances that credit cards can offer you may not get it covered if they determine that you're using the business card for personal expenses. They say this in their T&C.

Do I know anyone who has gotten screwed by this? No. But has it happened to someone? Almost certainly.

      • One thing I'd never use a business card for is rental cars, at least not if I need the insurance that comes with. I am not sure if it was on DoC, but I have read that they will ask for proof of business use if you make a claim.

    • FWIW, some civil servants have clauses in their employment contracts that prohibit them from owning a business or having a second job without prior approval, and I would imagine that some people aren't willing to test that clause of their contracts by opening business cards.

    • People are irrationally afraid of signing up for business cards without a legit business. Technically speaking you have less legal protections, but in practice the issuers aren't in the habit of selling their business customers down the river, if they did that they'd lose a lot of business customers.

Also you still have 4/24 slots to work with, might as well make use of them, especially since there's interesting personal cards without a business equivalent.

      • It's not irrational fear. Chase is not so easy to get approved. P2 and myself have been denied several times.

    • Folks on work visas cannot (rather should not) apply for business cards. Unlikely they get picked up during Green Card/citizenship verification but if they get picked up can screw up immigration for the individual for very little upsdie

      • I never understood this logic, folks on work visas can start a business only if they are passively involved in it, for example you can own a rental managed by a property manager. In this case you will get a business card to keep your rental expenses separate and I don't think this will affect your GC in any way.

    • Yes, people do exactly this. Churners often get both to get both SUBs since they are often not mutually exclusive.

  • i guess its about time. amex and cap1 already have premium cards w/ dual consumer / biz counterparts w/ adjusted benefits.

it made no sense UA was the only dual offering from chase. even amex doesnt have premium biz cobrands. but i def look fwd to premium hyatt or IHG. AC or BA would be nice too.

lets see how this turns out w/ various app restrictions applied. its clear the leaders are amex / chase head to head. and dark horse runner up w/ cap1 + WF.

sideline banks are mostly bofa + citi + USB + other junk banks. no action from those guys except AS premium. citi is confused. and USB is not playing anymore.

  • Probably 15-20k spend in 90 days for 100-150k UR. $795 AF and a bunch of coupons.
