Citi has increased the sign up bonus on their Hilton Hhonors Visa Signature card. They used to have two separate deals, both came with no annual fee:
Old Deals
- 50,000 Hilton Hhonors points
- 40,000 Hilton Hhonors points and a $50 statement credit
The latest deal combines the best of both worlds and you now get:
Current Deal
- 50,000 Hilton Hhonors points when you spend $1,000 within four months and a $50 statement credit when you spend $50 or more at a property in the Hilton portfolio, no annual fee
- You also earn Hilton Hhonors points at the following rates:
- 6 points for all hotel stays within the Hilton portfolio
- 3 points for all supermarket, gas station and drugstore purchases
- 2 points for all other purchases
- Free upgrade to silver status with Hiltons loyalty program. They both also allow you to upgrade to gold status by staying at any property in Hilton’s portfolio four times within the first 90 days
The Fine Print
- Deal valid until 18th May, 2014
- If you’re not approved for the Signature version of this card, you may be automatically approved for the gold version (they don’t state if you’ll still receive any bonus, and if so by how much it’ll be reduced)
Our Verdict
I’m not a big fan of Hilton hotels, especially since they drastically reduced how much the Hhonors points are worth. Most people value them at about 0.4¢ per point (although you can sell them to rewards2cash for 0.48¢ per point) , meaning you’d get $250 of value out of this card. I personally won’t be taking them up on this offer, but for those that regularly use Hilton properties this might be a decent deal.
Just remember that there are other Hilton cards that may offer better value:
- Hilton HHonors Card from American Express (50k points after $750 spend, no statement credit but you earn 7 points per $ spent at Hilton properties. Also comes with silver status and no annual fee)
- Hilton HHonorsTM Surpass® Card from American Express (70k points after $3,000 spend, no statement credit, $75 annual fee, gold status)
- Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card (2 free weekend night certificates, statement credit of $100 if you spend $100 or more at any Hilton property, gold status and annual fee of $95 not waived)
Personally the only one of these worth applying for is the reserve card and that’s only if you have plans to stay at an expensive Hilton property over the weekend. All the rest you’ll struggle to stay at a nice property for more than one night with the points offered.
This deal has been added to the master list of credit card deals.
