the fine print on the staples website says these are pathward cards. i seem to recall people have posted elsewhere that pathward cards are difficult to liquidate.
Pathward is the bank. You need to worry about who the issuer is. It is probably Blackhawk.
This is not new; I’ve been buying VGC and MCGC from Staples since 2021. Unlike Office Depot, Staples processes these cards directly.
The keyword here is Virtual VGC.
This is new, they are virtual cards.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear in my last post. I’ve been buying Virtual VGC and MCGC from Staples since 2021.
Any portal suggestions to maximize my Hobby pleasure? Anyone? Bueller?
There’s a limit of $1000 “per order.”
Will buy 500s. Come on!
Could be useful for Chase offers that say online only. The activation fee is a little high though. It looks like what Quill’s used to be before they jacked it up. Not surprising since Staples owns Quill.
Seems like this would work well for the Citi SYW online offers.
But so many cheaper places exist to get visa GCs
Online though? That’s not through cashstar or the like?
Many offers have fine print saying no gift cards (don’t qualify) – be sure to read the small p[rint on SYW
A lot of times that “small print” is not enforced.
I’ve sometimes wondered if that gift card restriction just applied to the merchant’s gift cards. i.e. you can’t get the promo if you buy a Staples gift card at Staples, but you do get it on any other gift cards they might sell. Don’t know if this is the case. Just a thought.
No, that’s not what they mean. They mean all GCs. However, most of the time, that’s not enforced. However, you should fear the Amex RAT!
This could work with the ABG $20 monthly credit no? Thus $10.95 cost (post credit) for a $25 card?
What is ABG?
AMEX Business Gold
Amex business gold
Just got the app in the mail – says the$20 office supply store credit is not for purchase or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents. I think that rules out gift cards. not eligible purchase
Does Amex have Level 3 data? If not, it might still trigger the credit even though it’s not supposed to.
ABG on the non-$20 part wouldn’t be worth your while when there’s 5x cards out there.
key is who is the processor? online virtual cards are probably not Staples directly, thus no Ink 5x benefit (even if fee free promotion)
It looks like it’s just fulfilled by Staples
I just added it to my cart to test it. It is processed by Staples, just like any other order.
for years ppl use AMEX Staples for online GC
This only makes sense if Chase has Staples online deal
