Our Verdict

There are quite a few hotel booking websites that now offer you airline miles instead of regular hotel points (e.g RocketMiles, Kaligo & PointsHound). Most people find the airline miles more valuable. There are several downsides to using these sites are:

• You usually won’t earn elite night stay credits
• You usually won’t have your status with that hotel recognized (e.g if your a platinum they might not give you the benefits that includes)
• The rates usually aren’t the lowest available and if they have a best rate guarantee it’s not very useful due to the fine print

I’ve done a detailed review of RocketMiles before and will do something similar for PointsHound in the future (Update: You can read our full review here, we also did another review of a service called Kaligo which is the same). My suggestion? If you don’t care for hotel loyalty programs, check out the prices these sites offer compared to the best rate you can find elsewhere. I’ve yet to find something for myself where it has really made sense. Kaligo is another site that also offers this same functionality.

All of that being said, you get 100 miles just for signing up which might be worth it for some people. Keep in mind 2,000 miles is higher than the normal bonus of 1,000 for new customers. I’m going to get the sign up bonus and I might do the booking bonus if it makes sense, but I doubt it will. This offer has been added to my list of how I make side money in 2015.
