On December 28th, 2016 IHG reported that they were launching an investigation after there was reports of unauthorized charges appearing on some cards that were used at a small number of their U.S. hotels. They have now released a list of 12 properties managed by IHG that had compromised payment terminals from August until December of last year.
Malware was installed on servers that process payment cards used at restaurants and bars of these locations, payment terminals at check in/reception were not affected. I assume that guests affected have been contacted directly, but as always it’s a good idea to check if your cards were involved or not. I also believe that IHG must provide free credit monitoring and protection as part of that breach, but that is not mentioned specifically on the website.
