The Offer
- We just posted about a 250,000 membership rewards bonus that requires $1,150,000 in spend on the Business Platinum. I actually found some additional bonuses that might be useful, these are targeted so YMMV.
- Spend $15,000, get 15,000 points & spend additional $5,000, get 5,000 more points
- Spend $50,000, get 25,000 points & spend additional $15,000, get 7,500 more points
- Spend $110,000, get 30,000 points & spend additional $35,000, get 10,000 more points
- Spend $210,000, get 60,000 points & spend additional $75,000, get 20,000 more points
- Spend $500,000, get 100,000 points & spend additional $150,000, get 40,000 more points
- Spend $1,150,000, get 250,000 points & spend additional $300,000, get 75,000 more point
- Extra 0.5x points per dollar on purchases over $5,000 (bringing it to 2x points)
The Fine Print

- Must make purchase by October 6th, 2017
Our Verdict
The offers get progressively worse as the spend increases, you start of getting an additional 1x point per $1 spent and by the end you’re getting 0.2 of a point per $1 spent. Keep in mind the spending rates on this card:
- 5x points on all flights and prepaid hotels on amextravel.com
- 1x points on all other purchases
- 50% more points on business purchases of $5,000 or more (this is on the base rate, so 1.5x for all other purchases and 5.5x on amextravel).
The first offer might be attractive for some people, but most will be better off putting that towards minimum spend requirements or category bonuses.
I can’t get targeted for any of these promotions. Show extended payment option for personal platinum and PRG but no bonus points for me. Have business platinum but am “not invited” for any of these extra spend bonuses. Maybe it’s time to concentrate on Chase rewards again. They seem a lot easier to use as well without all the fees and whatnot. I spend 150-200k a year on credit cards but not enough for Amex apparently. Will hit the SPG bonus and finish the double points on blue for business and figure it out from there I guess.
I here you there Jeff I have AMEX- Personal Platinum no points for on the Pay over time feature “I wouldn’t use it” and grab offers I’ve put 70-80k in the last 10 months. I have the Business Platinum as well just got it in Jan.& have put just over 20k on it & Grab offers except the 100k points for spending 15k. Everyday card that I’ve put about 8-10k in the last 10 months and my SPG I’ve put right @15k in the past 4 months. I don’t understand it either I read about all these people receiving great offers and low apr, no HP loans. I’m happy there getting those offers but I’m thinking like you now and just keep my SPG.
