Our Verdict
These offers have been available for awhile by telephone for the personal cards and with a bit of work the business versions were also available (we were one of the few blogs that told you about this), the platinum bonus is slightly higher than the telephone offer (which was 45k miles + 15k MQM miles and $100 statement credit). If you did sign up for the now inferior Platinum offer it looks like AmEx will not match your bonus.
It’s important to keep in mind that you can now only get each American Express bonus once per lifetime. The fine print on these offers also says that you may be excluded for the sign up bonus if you currently hold ANY American Express credit card, but we don’t think this will be enforced.
If you’re going to sign up for one of these cards, you’d be best off going with the Gold card unless you’re going for status as it has the annual fee waived for the first year. The platinum version of the card also gives you one companion ticket that allows a companion to travel with you and only pay the taxes and fees (only for domestic flights and excluding Alaska/Hawaii).
This is also a great chance to see which bloggers actually care about giving you the best offer. The telephone offers have been public knowledge since the start of July. If you see a blogger aggressively pushing these newer offers and they made no mention of the previous telephone offer then you should take their recommendations with a grain of salt. Chances are they are more interested in living
We will always publish the best offer regardless of whether we get paid or not. If you know of a higher offer then we have listed, please contact us so we can add it to our site. We’ll even give you a small reward for doing so.
I personally don’t find a lot of value in Delta miles after all the devaluations (they are referred to as SkyPesos for a reason) and I already have way to many miles at the moment anyway. As such I won’t be bothering with any of these offers, if you do decide to sign up for one of them please consider using links provided by a blogger you get value from (we don’t have affiliate links, so there is no point in using ours!).
