Our Verdict

Becoming easier and easier to find these in stock, but I know some people have still struggled and seem to sell out when they do come back in stock periodically.

Was this article edited to remove mention of COVID? I don’t know why ppl are assuming that these are only being bought bc of COVID.

It’s because people are filthy children who assume that hygiene is optional, except during a pandemic. “If it doesn’t look dirty, then it must be clean, right?” God, children are so fucking disgusting.

The risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection via the fomite transmission route is low, but there are lots of other viruses and bacteria out there.

The chance of 1 in 10,000 is seemingly low, but think of how many surfaces one touches, then multiply that by the number of hands out there. The numerator is absolutely huge compared to the seemingly large 10,000 denominator.

The take away should be that we should be sure to wash our hands.

It also goes to show the importance of wearing a mask to address the main source of infection.

PSA: CDA said a few months back that fomite transmission is 1 in 10,000 odds.

Save your money.

Yea, it can happen if one of the admins does it. Apparently the admins foolish enough to oppose CDC guidance and saving money to the point that they downvoted me. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/more/science-and-research/surface-transmission.html

Interesting. Disinfecting wipes don’t just kill coronaviruses though. I think you might be a little myopic regarding what people are using these for.

“COVID-19 spreads less commonly through contact with contaminated surfaces. Spread from touching surfaces is not thought to be a common way that COVID-19 spreads.” These sentences are on the CDC’s web site.

Given what we now know about COVID-19, some consumers might be buying more disinfecting wipes than they really need.

You’re assuming that the main driver in demand is the pandemic, but disinfecting wipes have always been a household staple for all-purpose cleaning. And many of us are spending more time at home now.

Of course, someone who has never scrubbed a toilet, wiped down a kitchen counter, or had children probably thinks that basic cleanliness and hygiene are just niche, panic-induced issues.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/more/science-and-research/surface-transmission.html

“Quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) studies have been conducted to understand and characterize the relative risk of SARS-CoV-2 fomite transmission and evaluate the need for and effectiveness of prevention measures to reduce risk. Findings of these studies suggest that the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection via the fomite transmission route is low, and generally less than 1 in 10,000…”
