- Amazon is selling NBA 2K19 – Nintendo Switch For $4.99
Our Verdict
Don’t think this will last long. Update: Digital copy was $3 a few months ago and apparently a lot of micro transactions so might not be worth it.
People still buy games for the Switch and PS4? I thought most people would have jailbroken their devices by now.
Many people are happy to pay for their games and not steal them (as implied by your comment).
Truth be told, sports games historically, all have aged like spoiled milk. 2k20 has already been released. Source: 28+ years as a gamer/nerd , I sell video games /accessories as one of my income streams / hobbies.
So I’m not a gamer but wondering if these comments are from gamers. Would this be suitable as a gift for a seven-year-old? Or do the microtransactions kill it for kids also.
It’s still pretty bad. Like, say, if you want to do a basketball dunk vs. layups over & over again, you gotta pay $$$$. Unless your kids are die-hard, hardcore fans of the series and you are willing to spend that kind of $$$ , I would steer clear of this series for now, 2k19 & 2k20 alike.
I wouldn’t put a game full of casino-like microtransactions in front of a seven-year-old. Even if the game was good (which this game definitely isn’t), I wouldn’t give a game full of those types of microtransactions to a small child. Microtransactions, in general, are an issue, but very specifically I would definitely avoid games with casino-like randomized microtransactions when giving a game to children.
I wouldn’t give a game full of casino-like microtransactions to an adult either. I avoid those games for my own personal gaming as well.
It often seems everything these days are full of microtransactions. Everything seems to be a ‘Game as a Service’ looking to ‘engage’ you with various paid content. But there are games that are just simply good games without any of that other manipulative casino-like nonsense.
I have had a great time with the Nintendo Switch since it released. And while there are games on the Switch with microtransaction (such as NBA 2K19), the ‘Games as a Service’ nonsense is harder to pull off on the Switch (since the Switch is portable and therefore isn’t always connected to the internet as other consoles are).
If you are looking for something for a child, generally speaking, anything Nintendo-developed/published is probably safe.
Well… anything Nintendo-made that isn’t a mobile game. Unfortunately, that randomized microtransaction nonsense has made its way into Nintendo mobile games (such as Mario Kart World Tour on iPhone and whatnot). But Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch, for example, is a great game with no casino gaming mechanics to be found.
(Kind of a long post, but I wanted to give you a complete answer.)
Ok so I feel stupid but have to ask….what do you all mean by micro transactions in relation to this deal?
In game purchases to keep you hooked if you fall for it.
Lol. I’ve never bought a single in-game purchase in my life unless you count more quarters in the arcade machine to “continue”.
The game is an absolute slog if you don’t pay for microtransactions. You need to pay to progress through the game at a reasonable pace. If you don’t pay, you’ll have a crappy time. And if you do pay, your wallet will have a crappy time.
2K19 isn’t as bad 2K18. And 2K19 definitely isn’t as bad as 2K20. 2K20 is basically a real-money casino simulator with a sprinkling of basketball here and there. 2K19 isn’t as bad as those two, but it’s still not good.
i see.
Im old school and only a casual gamer of the newer systems. (VERY casual). I would never play a game that requires all that nonsense. The only game i am considering paying extra for is spider-man new missions because the main game was so awesome, i dont think its a bad idea a little more for new content.
I paid $2 for this a couple months ago from the Nintendo Eshop digital version for Switch. Definitely worth it for $2..
Not worth it. Even if it were free (and with micro transactions, that will never actually be ‘free’), it still wouldn’t be worth it.
Sport games always end up in the $5 bargain bin at the front of shops.
Can buy on Ebay for $20. Resale opportunity…but not so much
got it for $2 a few months ago. terrible game.
It’s full of micro transactions. And it was $3 digital couple of months ago.
