American Airlines has started to roll out changes to the aa.com website. I won’t go into specifics regarding the cosmetic changes, but they have made a few other changes that are interesting.
- New promotions tab. This will show customized offers for each reward member and in some cases you’ll be able to choose the reward you receive as well.
- Executive Platinum status bonus. Once you reach 300,000 elite qualifying miles (EQMs) for 2018 you’ll be able to choose one of three different rewards:
- Gift platinum status to a friend
- Two additional system wide upgrades
- 40,000 bonus miles
5,000 mile Promotion:
- To show off the new promotions tab they are offering everybody the ability to earn up to 5,000 miles. The more activities you complete, the more you earn. Activities are as follows:
- Make any purchase with AAdvantage® eShoppingâ„
-  Dine-in or carry out with AAdvantage® Diningâ„
- Book and stay at a hotel at bookaahotels.com
- Rent and drive a car at aa.com/cars
- Â Fly on an American Airlines marketed and operated flight
Miles you earn are:
- 1 activity = 50 bonus miles
- 2 activities = 250 bonus miles
- 3 activities = 1,000 bonus miles
- 4 activities = 2,500 bonus miles
- 5 activities = 5,000 bonus miles
Rules:
- You can earn a maximum of 5,000 miles from the promotion
- You can only do each qualifying activity once and you only need to earn one mile from each qualifying activity for it to count
- The posting date of the transaction does not matter – only the activity date
- Car rentals have to be picked up and dropped in the promotion period and the hotel stays have to be booked and stayed during the promotion period
The executive platinum status is only for 2018 and is in addition to the two system wide upgrades you receive at 150,000 & 200,000 EQM currently. The bonus option will show up in the promotions center once you’ve reached 200,000 EQMs. What are your thoughts about the changes?
