American Express Business Platinum Will No Longer Earn 35% Rebate On All First & Business Class Bookings

American Express announced today that the Business Platinum card will no longer include First and Business Class tickets booked on an airline that is not your selected airline. The change will go into effect on September 18, 2025.

Previously economy flights needed to be your selected airline in order to get the 35% rebate while First and Business Class tickets earned the 35% rebate on all airlines.

Ouch. Many report, unofficially, being able to change their selected airline multiple times in mid-year to a domestic airline, but not an international airline, so that can help somewhat.

At this point, which of the so-called premium cards is even worth the fee that you pay for them?

What is the advantage of altitude reserve ? Just 3X mobile payments. I have it but am considering canceling it.

3x mobile, easy to cash out at 1.5cpp, 8 lounge passes, strong travel protections and only $75 effective AF

When you factor in the expanded availability, earned miles/status points, and the ability to use MR to book premium cabins on non-aligned/oddly-aligned airlines abroad, this was actually one of the better options out there. Unless all the other credits line up nicely with your needs, hard to see any point in holding this card anymore.

I only use AMEX MR for Non-US airlines business class tickets. 90% of people I know will cancel all PLAT cards for all my friends and family members this year because of this change

WTF. I like that they waited until CSR got rid of their 1.5 cpp option (I know, personal vs business but I had both and used it a couple of times for cheap premium fares)
