The newly launched American Express Gold card had an offer widely available via referral and incognito to get 50,000 points + 20% back on dining up to $100. As we shared publicly, the referral offer was slated to end – and ended – yesterday, January 9th.
- You can still get the 50,000 points signup bonus incognito (link – open in private browsing).
- The new referral offer is 40,000 points (plus, of course, the bonus to the referrer which can be up to 15,000 points).
- The standard offer is for 35,000 points (link).
The $100 dining bonus has been dropped from all offers. The spend requirement remains the same at $2,000 for all offers.
We had ample warning on the referral offer ending, and I assume anyone who wanted this offer already got it, but it’s worth keeping tabs on this, regardless. Truthfully, the referral offer may be better for a lot of people, since you can get 15,000 points from the referral + 40,000 from the bonus which ends up at 55,000 total. Works for those who self-refer, or those who have a spouse or whatnot to refer them.
