- American Express has a new referral bonus, where if you refer a friend you’ll receive 3x bonus points on all purchases for 3 months without any cap.

Our Verdict
The 3x earning rate is in addition to the points you’d normally earn (e.g this would make the personal gold card earn 7x on grocery purchases). Given that there is no cap I can’t see American Express being tolerant to manufactured spend and they are known for clawbacks. American Express referral bonuses are sometimes as high as 30,000 points so you do need to spend a lot to get value out of this new promotion. This promotion actually stacks with the standard referral bonus.
