Our Verdict

As always use cashbackmonitor to compare to other portals to ensure you’re getting a good deal (airline portals can offer way worse rates in some cases, even with the bonus miles).

Fine print is to be believed? YMMV?

I guess they realized they made a mistake. I’ve gotten two emails since that say 7 miles/$. I guess that 15 was too lucrative for them. I should have jumped on it when I first got it.

American is hit or miss. They sent an email last week with Under Armour 15 miles/$ but when you clicked the offer it was 7 miles/$. They’ve done this on more than one occasion.

Had you clicked on the link after a day?

That was the problem I waited a day or two before deciding to use it and it had changed to 7. I still have the email showing 15. I emailed them about it, but no answer.

This isn’t just American, the other airline shopping portals do this also.

The 10+ miles/$ advertised in emails often are only valid that day. It’s crappy because they don’t send out emails until mid-morning then after midnight EST the offer goes back down to <10 miles/$.
