  • Can spend the $100 in a single transaction or multiple smaller transactions.
  • Valid in-store and online at US website only.
  • Valid at any participating location in the US. Excludes J.Crew Factory stores, J.Crew Mercantile stores, jcrewfactory.com, Madewell stores and madewell.com. Excludes in-store events and pop-up shops.
  • Not valid on purchases shipped outside the US, Puerto Rico, USVI and Guam.
  • Excludes corporate gift card purchases.

Our Verdict

It’s worth noting that while the standard Amex offers at J.Crew are highly targeted (they regularly come out with targeted $25 off $125 offers), this one seems to be available for everyone or at least most people.

You can buy $100 J.Crew gift card or e-gift card to lock in the discount. Another good tip is that you can use two credit cards per order at J.Crew, so you can spend $200 in an order on merchandise or gift cards and then split the payment between two registered Amex cards.

Depending on your reselling relationships, it might be possible to sell J.Crew gift cards at 80% or better. I expect rates to edge down as cards flow in from this deal. You can also try going through a shopping portal, but don’t rely on it tracking for gift cards as in the past it’s been highly YMMV, especially for e-gift card tracking.

The J Crew offer is the best way I’ve found to get discounts on Alden shoes.

Do you need to charge the entire $100 on Amex or does the transaction have to be over $100? I have J Crew gift cards I want to use up and I would combine with Amex CC payment.

You can use as many GCs as you want as long as at least $100 ends up being charged to the Amex. Amex doesn’t care about how much the order total was.

More than likely they’ll improve closer to the end of the year/holiday season

Yup, it’s always like this in the first quarter. Lowe’s offer is pretty good as well.

So is Jcrew quality worth the price in todays men’s retail market?

I got a flannel last fall for < $30 by stacking coupons, and I've been really pleased with the quality. I would almost certainly never pay full price for their items, but I consider that more a reflection of me being uncomfortable spending a lot on clothing rather than a judgement on their quality and durability. In terms of whether it's "worth it," – that's ultimately up to you.

Very much still around. Their sales have suffered like other retailers, but they’re the ones responsible in skyrocketing tailored suit sales (along with Tom Ford in the high-end segment). The Bowery (now Ludlow Slim) dress pants are all over Boston/New York.
