Our Verdict

I suspect this is going to sell out very quickly. Shame it doesn’t include tip/alcohol but still great value if you can make use of it every week and like Applebee’s. It is nice you can get to go orders as well. Let us know if you’re going to go for it in the comments below.

I was surprised! Wasn’t expecting to get it. I went to the website to purchase and it only gives me the option to buy a gift card. Reached out to CS to clarify the purchase process

Remember the media blitz last year? I wonder if this will be more under the radar this year.

Anyone remember red lobster’s all-you-can-eat shrimp deal before they went under?

Anyone remember reading the real reason Red Lobster went out of business was because the new owners sold all their real estate out from under them (to an REIT said investors also owned), and then kept raising the rents? The endless shrimp explanation was nothing but a distraction. Similar real estate move caused the downfall of Caesars in Vegas; no money left to invest in gaining casinos.

Huh, I hadn’t heard that…but sounds similar to how the Sears CEO drove the company to the ground so his hedge fund could buy the real estate assets dirt cheap.

Same thing happened to Toys R Us and Bad Bath and Beyond and every other brick and mortar bankruptcy in the last 10 years.

Don’t forget they were required to purchase shrimp at higher than market prices from the provider that had a stake in the ownership.

“Pass may only be used once every 30 days to redeem up to $50 of food and non-alcoholic beverages. No credit will be given for a missed redemption. No rollover if single use is less than $50. ”

I have to order almost $50/visit?

To-Go orders count too. So get a meal or two to take home.

Not if you cap them at 30 to a visit, pair them, and kill alcohol, which is why 60% of people are at applebees. You have to be an applebees goblin to actually realize the value each month.

This isn’t that great a deal. $50 of food there probably costs them $20.

If you magically hit $50 every time they lost around $150. ($240 Actual Cost – $100 Payment).

It is likely some months you will go over $50 trying to mix and match so that’s money out of your pocket, and some months you may forget. It also gets Applebee’s name out there and top of mind and if you like your food there’s the potential to visit more than once a month.

This deal makes sense for them. The $30 every week didn’t.

Yeah this is a bad deal for the people getting it. They are just test running it to see if they lose money or make money off of it.

If you think 50 of food that costs less than $20 per entree on average (menu price) is somehow only costing them $20 to produce, you’ve clearly never worked in a restaurant.

All expenses included, probably closer to $42-45. They don’t make money on food. They make money on drinks.

At most it’s a $1.5M giveaway, assuming every diner uses the monthly $50, no more no less. For a company with $4B annual sales, I’d say no, this isn’t a path to bankruptcy.

It’s definitely a cheaper way to get newsletter subs than a Super Bowl ad.

If I dont win, I immediately unsubscribe and revmoe my account. Why anybody lets marketing emails continue to come to their email is beyond me.

1000 people are not going to bankrupt the company. Also most people won’t use it every month.

Just say NO to timed promotions, waste of 99.9% people’s time. Remind me if/when the email sweepstakes comes back in a second round.
