Bank of America Spirit ‘Free Spirit’ Credit Card, 65,000 Points + $100 Companion Flight Voucher

The Offer

Direct link to offer (use code 110662)

  • Bank of America is offering 65,000 points after $1,000 in spend within the first 90 days and $100 companion flight voucher

The Fine Print

  • Annual fee of $79, waived first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 3 points per $1 spent on eligible Spirit purchases
    • 2 points per $1 spent on eligible dining and grocery store purchases
    • 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Anniversary bonus of $100 companion flight voucher if you spend at least $5,000 in purchases the prior year
  • Zone 2 shortcut boarding on all flights
  • 25% rebate on all inflight food and beverage purchases when you pay with your card

Our Verdict

Previous best deal was 65k + $100. If you have a clear use of Spirit points then I can see this bonus being useful, but for most people this is an easy skip. We will still be adding it to the list of the best credit card bonuses.

Why do people hate spirit? I can get to point a to point b for $50bucks. Without spirit, the same route would be $400. Spirit creates competition and I think that’s a good thing for consumer. You just need to travel light and don’t check the bags

Similar to frontier, their numbers are pretty bad in a few spots. Their on-time arrival is lackluster (but not the worst) and their gate acceptance and waits can be absolutely garbage, even if you’re traveling light. My wife once flew spirit from like the Boston to Philly and they ran low of fuel so they had to land in Atlantic City.

Spirit is good competition, but even that point is undermined by their attempted merger.

Having to fly Spirit is not a reward.

This has been the offer available in-flight for about 2 months now.

I fly Spirit every couple of weeks or more, I’ll be flying it tomorrow …. is it great, no, but it has been the lowest price option nearly every time if you don’t need a carryon. I’ve been glad to be able to fly home every couple weeks this year for as low as $38 each way. I’ve also been using miles from the SUB to book a bunch of one way trips for 2,500 miles each way. I currently have trips booked for 4 of the next 5 weekends (most expensive segment is 4,000 miles). 2 weeks ago I got a random upgrade to the Big Front Seat at no extra cost, my ticket was $51. That being said … The card is pretty useless beyond the first year IMO. Take the SUB and run.

People love to hate on Spirit, but I’ve also been glad to be able to see my long-distance girlfriend for $25 each way for the past year. And likewise, the Big Front Seat is better than any other airline economy seat and I was able to get it for as low as $10!

An Airline credit card that,

  • Does not offer a free checked bag
  • Does not offer an intro, entry-level FF tier
  • Offers FF miles as a SUB,

But, for an Airline that

  • Nickels-and-dimes flyers for everything from seat-selection and carry-on baggage to trip changes. (Only Basic-economy or worse)
  • Charges a ‘redemption fee’ (in addition to taxes and fees) whenever you’re redeeming FF miles for a ticket.

Hard pass.

If you compare this with a Frontier CC, while they are also a comparable basic-airline, at least the CC provides free checked baggage and provides intro ‘Gold’ status for a year, that alleviates some of the hassles in flying an Ultra Low-cost carrier.

“I know you’re out there. I can feel you now. I know that you’re afraid… you’re afraid of us. You’re afraid of change. I don’t know the future. I didn’t come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it’s going to begin.” Thanks, Neo.

Just FYI – the award ticket redemption fee was discontinued last year.

Well, if “TesticleBlisters” says so, then I’d say that’s as good as ‘fact.’

Spirit waives the redemption fee for award flights if you’re a credit card holder. And it’s not uncommon to get up to 1.5cpp, especially for flights to Central America and the Caribbean.

Just got this card last week with 60k bonus due to a pretty compelling use case despite the obvious drawback of having to fly Spirit. Anyone know if BoA matches offers?

This has to be the highest SUB % ever right? $750 in value on $1000 spend is crazy

Yeah but then you’d have to fly Spirit. That in itself is a payment.

The barclays AA, Jetblue, and hawaiian have had similar or slightly more miles after 1k spend and those miles are a hell of a lot better than spirit.

Barclays Aviator is usually around 70K miles for one purchase. So you can buy something for 50 cents and get 70K.

Don’t worry, folks: Spirit Airlines successfully emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 12, 2025. And, they “plan to rebrand as premium airline to boost revenue…” Huh.
