Our Verdict

1.5 miles per dollar spent isn’t particularly enticing for me, but would be for others. This will really depend on how much you value UA/AA airline miles. Personally I’m planning on putting all of my non bonus spend on the Discover it Miles card to get 3% cash back on all purchases, I’d need to value UA/AA miles at over 2¢ each for this deal to be a better option.

What is interesting though is a lot of people already have spending bonuses on their US Airways card (e.g 2x miles on certain categories or spend $1,000 receive 5,000 miles), it looks like these offers would stack (although I imagine you’ll only earn the bonus on the base miles and not on the already bonused miles but I could be wrong) which would make this a much more attractive option.

Let me know if you did or didn’t get this offer on your card in the comments. Also keep in mind there are referral bonuses of 5,000/10,000 miles that are still valid and the sign up bonus is currently 50,000 miles. I predicted that targeted spending bonuses would become a lot more common in 2015, and so far that is definitely holding true.
