Currently there are a number of issues with the BILT transition to BILT 2.0. Known issues are:
- BILT TPG 5x promotion not attaching properly (discussed here). Ankur Jain is claiming that this is due to fraud and nothing will be done on their end (via reddit).
- Card’s being declined. Some card’s are having all transactions denied, others can’t use it for online purchases.
- Cards cannot be added to a digital wallet.
- Plastiq seems to be blocked from working entirely. BILT clams this is untrue (see below).
A Bilt spokesperson made the following statement to our questions:
Bilt has industry-standard fraud prevention measures in place, similar to other card issuers. Cardholders making high-dollar transactions on a new card may occasionally be flagged, as that activity can resemble fraud. When that happens, customers may receive an SMS verification to confirm the transaction is theirs. Anyone experiencing difficulties surrouding fraud-suspected declines should call the number on the back of their card. Regarding Plastiq, we can confirm it is not blocked.
Our Verdict
This whole rollout is a mess. It seems like something seriously wrong has gone on with the TPG promotion as you have reports of people not using the TPG link getting the promotion and others that did use the link not getting the promotion attached. It will be interesting to see how CFPB and other agencies handle the complaints that will inevitably rise from this.
I suspect things like transactions being denied will be improved over time and I can’t work out why Plastiq isn’t working but Bilt claims it isn’t blocked.
