Capital One has sent out a survey regarding a possible new mid tier card that would compete with the American Express Gold. Doesn’t seem great for a $295 annual fee.
Keep in mind that this a survey that apparently one person got.
Banks who do surveys about new cards often send out several different versions of the same survey to different people, and so you can’t know without seeing all of those different surveys what features are common to all surveys and what features are different among all surveys.
So you shouldn’t necessarily assume, even if this card does come to exist, that it necessarily will be exactly as shown here.

Sooooo not as good as VX for similar price and way overpriced compared to savor. I bet it’s not even a visa infinite card. It’s definitely not an Amex gold card “killer”.
Add 5x dinning and entertainment AND recreation and 6 cap one lounge passes and I’d consider.
To really compete with Amex Gold, I agree. That being said, there are so many 5% options throughout the year on groceries, it’s not a huge deal. For me personally, the “coupons” are much better than what Amex is offering. If they make this dining credit usable at a good variety of restaurants (not just 3* Michelin), I think many could use the dining credit.

As a Savor holder, I don’t see this card lasting long term with that annual fee unless it has 4x Grocery too. That would be a powerhouse competitor to AmEx Gold

I wonder if this will be part of a new family of cards, but any idea if this would have points transferred to airlines? That would be most appealing.
You can convert cashback to points if you have any of the Venture cards – I have the no-fee Savor and got the VentureOne for that reason. There’s no lockout like Citi, either, so you have full access to all partners at their normal rates

its not a bad card. id get it if the SUB > 80k. the problem with C1 tho is they dont really have a competitive transfer partner. most of their partners are overlapped with amex. if they can make Eva 1:1 then VX and this card are worth keeping for long term

No lounge access? I got Venture X, just for Lounge access. Of course I am getting other added benefits.
Me too (with 3 AUs) but what other benefits are you talking about? I hate that I need to spend $300 via their travel portal. That’s all I do with this card.
I think the $300 fee is what he means. Plus the 10,000 points. I don’t love the hoops to jump through either but it’s not that tough to book a flight or something, is it?
I know I wish they would just give me and 3 people I know priority pass & C1 lounge access for free, I have a passable credit score and everything. Low income people paying with cash already subsidize my travel hobby so much, why draw the line there?
I also have 3 AUs. I travel to my birth place India at least once in a year, so using$300 travel credit and 10,000 points is not an Issue for me. Free price drop protection helps me in buying my air tickets.

Seems absolutely like others say it is the Savor AF replacement card being considered.
Entertainment portal is mostly vividseats. I don’t know how they will get extra on their iheart ticketmaster presales events which are the only items that wouldn’t be marked up. In general not useful as vividseats as that was incentivized by other CO options without a massive AF.
Those who use VX cards probably understand the travel portal.
Interesting to see Uber back with CO. I have gotten recent offers from Uber for $1 per month for their One service (after 3 free months), so not a massive value. Apple tv does 3 free months from time to time, but I suspect they are probably paying Apple maybe 1 or 2 dollars a month.
Even if one used all of the coupon book items, the AF itself is still more than what CO paid for the items given I believe.
So the AF is too high. We know they are targeting a very specific population, but it didn’t work with the previous Savor AF card either.
It is fascinating how they refuse to go above 4x for dining and entertainment and travel as we think of it (planes and airport lounges) except their portal are absolutely not considered. I know people are thinking of AmEx Gold, but it doesn’t have the branding or image that AmEx does…
I have an idea though, I suggest anyone waiting for this card get the non-AF Savor now if you don’t have it. We never know what CO will do for existing customers….

For 295, needs to be 4x on groceries as well

This isn’t a bad card at all. I’d be interested.
