Our Verdict

Same to a similar deal earlier this year but with the additional $200k/200k points element. Basically turns this into a 3x earning card (plus the initial 150k bonus) could be useful for those with large business expenses.

Remember, Capital One pulls all 3 credit bureaus. Unlike most Capital One business cards, Spark Cash cards do not report the statement balances to the personal bureaus; see these Things to Know About Capital One Credit Cards before applying. We’ll add this to our List of Best Credit Card Signup Bonuses.

I really want to like Capital One because our business has a ton of spend. That said, we just find Chase URs and AMEX MRs to be so much more usable. We have 8 CIC cards and get 5X on GCs from office so we’d much rather get 150K URs with no fee than 150K Capital One points with an AF. I realize our situation is a little unique but is there anything I’m missing?

If you use the travel credit, the annual fee on the Venture X is covered.

Sure. But there are no fees with buying GCs and the URs are more valuable than Cap One currency.

Your business buys a lot of GCs at office stores? When they have promotions?

People in here are acting like every card needs to be designed for them.

If you have a business that spends $200k in 6 months anyway, there is no other card that will give you 350k miles as a bonus for that spend on top of being a 2x card to begin with. It doesn’t matter what the % return is if you were going to spend that much anyway.

What’s the point of this offer!!!! CapOne is giving only 1.5 pnts/$ spent. I can get the same number of points on many of my existing Chase cards without applying for a new card. On top of this, CapOne is notorious on approving new cards!!!

How on Earth did you get 1.5x? The card gives 2x point by default, the first part of the offer is 5x (150k after $30k), the second part is a little more than 1x ($200k after $170k).

So does that mean if you hit $200K in spend you end up with 750K points? My math is 200K spend * 2 points/dollar = 400K points for baseline spend and then 350K points for hitting the signup bonus. And then that would be worth at a min $7500 in travel booked through the cap one portal?

I have the Spark card and they report the statement balance every month to the credit agencies. Not sure why this is being reported differently.

The regular spark card does the spark cash plus does not as it is a charge card.

It wasn’t easy to spend on big ticket item as capital one soft cap big purchase (wasn’t able to go more than couple grand on spark biz card)

This is very frustrating as I never seem to be able to get approved.

Have clean credit history, no late payments, 50k CL on Venture X, etc.

Never gotten preapproved or approved through regular application for the business version.

Any guidance?

You can try applying via a business banker. I’ve had the same issue as you before with a biz Spark Plus card. The banker was able to get me approved.

I had exactly the same experience. Once someone was guiding my application it went right through.

If we just target the first step, 150k for $30k, that’s not too bad right? Is that special at all?

It’s awful. Most AMEX best flat offers are in the range of 250 K for 20 K spend.

For $200,000 spending, the bonus should be at least 4,000,000 points.
