Chase Launches ‘The Edit by Chase Travel’ For Chase Sapphire Reserve Members

Update 4/2/24: Now live here.

Chase has announced that a new hotel collection will be launched for Chase Sapphire Reserve members called ‘The Edit by Chase Travel‘ in early 2024. Chase is describing this as an ‘evolution’ of Luxury Hotels and Resorts program. Booking will give card members ‘breakfast for two, property credits and room upgrade’ so it’s unclear how it will functionally be different. What will be different is the ability to use Chase Ultimate Rewards to book, although the redemption rate is unknown.

Now that the Edit is live, a couple properties that were previously available under UR (a la 10x) now seem to be only available under the Edit (a la 3x plus benefits). Hope this isn’t the case. Chase has progressively become a less friendly ecosystem.

Yes, it looks like as long as they’re under the Edit, they are exclusive to the Edit, which means you can only book them that way, and that requires you to pay much more for that hotel whether you want the extra benefits or not.

The issue with these hotels is that a lot of them are so overpriced overall or cost so much more than booking directly.

It kind of sounds like a replacement for the Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection. If not, then it’s just a curated subset of the Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection which allows people to search by category/interest instead of just location/etc.

Given how little detail is in their press release, it doesn’t seem worth the effort of bothering to craft a press release. I guess we’ll find out when the “edit” launches.

It’s been “The Edit” for at least a month or two now. They’re the first few hotels listed for any destination you search on in the Chase travel portal, if there are any participating. It also seems there are fewer hotels listed for each destination than the old program seemed to have, for the few cities I searched.

Usually cost is an issue, imo.

The term “Edit” comes from the world of the fashion-conscious. Chase is coming to the game late with its adoption of the name. The term has become tired and overused, much like “curated.”

As the author suggests: What’s different from what we now have (other than using UR points and at what rate)? In another article, Chase stated that it will offer unique access to certain properties. But, what is not clear is whether “unique access” refers to being unique among the population of Chase Travel users or “unique access” refers to being unique among all travel portals. That is, to the exclusion of FHR, Citi Travel, Capital One Travel, etc.

The one time I looked at those Luxury Hotels & Resorts it ended up being pretty cost prohibitive compared to the other hotels I was looking at on Chase Travel. I’m hoping these ones won’t be as cost prohibitive, especially with the option to use UR points.

Stick with the UR hotel platform. It sounds like a better fit.

We’ll see. I suspect this will be inferior to transferring UR points to Hyatt.

Could have used a word from the card itself, miles better than “The Edit” imo.

I agree. “The Reserve” sounds a lot better. I really hate the LHR. Website stinks compared to Amex’s and the selection of hotels is very, very limiting compared to Amex’s.
