Citi Offers: 10% Back On Expedia

The Offer

  • Citi offers is offering 10% back on Expedia purchases, up to $50 back.

Our Verdict

Not a great deal for hotel bookings as they can be discounted more elsewhere, but on flights this is a decent discount.

I had the Siriusxm and Carnival offers on mine and my wife’s accounts and they are gone. I saved them and they disappeared. I have called Citibank many times about it and they are clueless. The Carnival offers are a potential $500 for me, but how can I trust this?

You beat me to it. I have had the same problem with Carnival and Bp. Added offers, expiration dates were way in future, and then when checking for new offers the existing ones for BP and Carnival had disappeared and never reappeared. As such, I can’t count on citi offers and will only use them if I check minutes before making a purchase and they show. Although there is still the chance they disappear before the purchase posts. Citi really needs to fix this.

I have 20% cb on H&M, $20 off $65 at sun basket (3x), $10 cb on BP gas, $9.99 off $9.99 on Pandora subscription, $5 cb on $8 Sirius XM, $5 off $40 hello fresh, $15 off $50 at bouqs.com, $20 off $100 total wine and more, $250 off $1,000 at carnival cruise lines, $20 off $100 at Expedia,

And $25 back on a purchase of $10 or more for farmers dog. Maybe a money maker if you can find something under $25.

On my Double Cash card I got an offer of $20 off a $100 purchase. But flights are excluded in the fine print. So it’s really just for the hotels.

Yeah, I have the 10% off up to $50 on my Premier card, but in the Terms of Use section it specifically excludes flights.

Looks like only for hotel bookings? “Offer only valid on room rate and room charges” I was hoping to use it for activities but it does not seem like anything other than hotel rooms is eligible. If so then it’s very useless as prepaid hotel rooms are usually cheaper on hotel’s own official sites. Also hotel loyalty benefits are not available if booked via Expedia regardless of status.

I used to book IHG hotels through name your price on Priceline (this feature is gone since then). As IHG platinum, I still managed to get loyalty benefits (room upgrades and late checkouts) in about 70% of my stays.

I thought for airline tickets, usually Expedia passes the billing information directly to the airlines?

Yea, I doubt this will work.

The same thing happened to me last year, I bought $800 of flights on my Citi Expedia credit card, I got 4x points on the $4 Expedia service charge, and 1x points on the 796 charge from the airline. It took two months, and a fax (!) to Citi with the receipt to get the points.

This happened to me on Orbitz and the Orbitz credit card that is supposed to earn 5% back on flights booked via Orbitz. The charge was directly via the airline and it only coded as a regular 2% charge. Eventually they did fix it, though.

Is this for citi double cash? Do I need to activate? It’s not showing up for me
