Citi To Launch New Credit Card ‘Citi Pay Credit’ (Buy Now, Pay Later)

Citi plans to partner with multiple retailers to launch a new credit card called ‘Citi Pay Credit’. The card won’t work as a traditional credit card and will only work with retailers that sign up. Retailers that sign up will also be able to offer customers an installment loan product. This seems to be really trying to compete with other buy now, pay later products and it’s unclear if any sign up bonus or rewards program will be offered but Citi has stated it will offer ‘promotional financing’. Unfortunately not the Citi Strata people were hoping for.

No surprise, they have some interesting cash back stuff but cater to lower rung credit on average

Another variation of the BNPL trend. Many cards offer some form of this.
I’d have no interest in this card, but I think it might find traction with Gen Z and younger Millennials.

…Isn’t this a 0% (but not necessarily) APR credit card, but just… worse, with extra steps?

Meanwhile, Amex rakes in money hand over first with their glorified Platinum coupon book, and Citi is too afraid to re-enter the premium market after pulling out with the Prestige.

This is a growing trend in the market that I’m so not thrilled about… yet a few of my stupid friends think this is better because “it’s not an evil credit card.”

Your friends with subprime credit are the ones effectively subsidizing rewards for the rest of us on the bank’s less profitable products.

Thank them or take pity on them but either way their stupidity is helping keep this game alive.

Surprise, the administration has just made another “positive” change!

Those with so called “prime credit” now has to pay a higher fee on their mortgage, in order to subsidize those with so called “subprime credit” so the later can now pay a lower fee.

You’re still paying less with good credit vs folks with than less than perfect credit. This is just to give the idea of “hope” for people who don’t have credit or “less than perfect credit” to get into the mortgage/housing game.

Klarna was cool for a while when it was free and had an extra 2% reward on top of your cc reward. But they gutted rewards and charge a $2 fee now for one time card.

Firehouse Subs are pretty good. Got a free one from Tmobile Tuesday and I’d go more often if they had a closer place to me.

It didn’t take long to nerf the Strata Elite.
