Citizens Bank Mastercard With Signup Bonus Of 5% Cash Back On Up To $6,000

Citizens Bank has their Cash Back Plus Mastercard which earns 1.8% cash back on all purchases and has no annual fee or foreign transaction fee. They also offer a signup bonus to get 5% cashback (1.8% + 3.2% bonus) on your first $6,000 in purchases during the first year.

In the past we’ve seen them run an offer to get 5% cashback with no limit. Now they are limiting the bonus to $6,000 which makes it much less interesting. I suppose it’s still mildly interesting for the signup bonus which can get you $300 cashback on $6,000 spend. But realistically most people won’t value it at more than $180 with a steep $6,000 spend requirement and won’t be interested in this.

Found a different offer for this card, $200 back on $500 spend, plus up to $100 back if you sign up for TSA pre-check within the first year. Expires 9/7/22

Has anyone used this card overseas? While many cards offer no foreign transaction fees, in practice transactions may get flagged or not go through, depending on the bank.

They’re fairly shutdown happy – I cycled a couple of times and they closed all my accounts. Very painful, where else can I find another sub-2% cashback card? I mean other than almost every other bank? Only really worth getting to abuse heavily before they can shut you down.

On the third account in a few years it did not pay out. Had to dispute it with a letter. Got a generic letter back saying did I check with the merchant. Fired a second letter off saying the dispute was with them and the accounting of cash rewards. Within a few weeks later got credited the cash back rewards from a dedicated agent assigned to the case. Never was I shut down though. They have not had sign up offers since then as far a I know. These days the customer service seems better too (and quick to connect too).

I was going to reply to “TesticleBlisters” but I was afraid if I attached a comment to his reply button that I might also get them. Sounds painful.

Appreciate the post even if some don’t, not worth it for me but good to know what’s out there. Especially like the $120 note as it keeps people thinking.

Not even worthy of a post lol.

Wouldn’t it be a max $192 bonus for a $6k spend? (3.2% x $6k = $192).

You’re right. It’s an even worse offer than I though it was.
