Class Action Lawsuit: Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi Airbag Control Settlement ($150-$350)

Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi Settlement

Class Action Website

Hyundai, Kia, and Mitsubishi are being sued. The lawsuit alleges that certain Hyundai, Kia, and Mitsubishi contain defective ZF-TRW airbag control units that are vulnerable to a condition called electrical overstress, which may cause the vehicles’ airbags and other safety features to fail during a collision.

You can file a claim for losses. The default payment amount without a specific claim is:

  • Hyundai or Kia non-recalled vehicles – $150
  • Hyundai or Kia recalled vehicles – $350
  • Mitsubishi – $250

These payments will be distributed on a per capita basis and will be determined after all eligible reimbursement claims are paid.

Important Dates

  • April 14, 2025 – Hyundai or Kia vehicles leased or purchased after this date are not eligible
  • November 1, 2024 – Mitsubishi vehicles leased or purchased after this date are not eligible
  • August 25, 2025 – last day to exclude yourself from the lawsuit
  • September 29, 2025 – Fairness Hearing
  • March 29, 2027 – last day to file a claim

Our Verdict

Since claims can be filed through March 2027, presumably payouts won’t be for a long time. I got a postcard in the mail with a claim number. Without the postcard/email ID, you might be asked for additional verification. Hopefully an easy $150-$350 for those eligible.
