Nice discount for Costco members. You can use up to 3 gift cards per transaction with Delta, or up to 8 over the phone.Â
Hat tip to reader KS
Just a heads up, beware of delta gift cards. There are times they can’t be used, like when trying to purchase using points and cash, gift cards can’t be used in lieu of cash. I found out the hard way. It made no sense to me other than they want your money, but have policies in place to prevent you from using them.
Can the gift cards be used toward buying Delta flights? I assume so.
Is there an expiration date on these gift cards?
Ok the link provided at the top answers all these questions.
Do you think this will count for the CSR $300 travel credit?
Definitely not, the travel credit applies to the merchant code and Costco is not a merchant that falls under that “travel” category.
no, will code up as costco
Just so you know, Up to 3 gift cards can be redeemed at delta at a time.
More can be redeemed by calling
Don’t forget the executive 2% reward.
Wouldn’t this be a great way to use the AMEX airline credit as well? I.e. purchase the gift cards from Costco to buy airline tickets and then any leftover balance pay with the AMEX card. Shouldn’t that trigger the airline credit?
Anything I know about this I put here https://www.doctorofcredit.com/payments-workshop/
FYI for anyone that has the Vantage West Rewards card, Costco online purchases do not count toward the wholesale clubs quarterly category.
Thank you
Drat, Costco no longer takes Amex. I thought for a second this would be a good way to knock out the Amex Hilton extra points offer, and my Amex Bonvoy retention offer. Oh well, 10% plus my regular credit card rewards is still a good deal.
I recall that Costco.com takes some non-VISA cards, possibly AMEX. Worth logging in to try.
Any cards but amex
Only Visa In-Store. Any card except Amex online.
That costco amex fallout really went sour.
I assume Altitude Reserve is a no go?
Great question – IIRC once a upon a time you could use S-Pay on Costco.com – but I can’t see the button for it anymore at checkout just Visa checkout.
One work around – unknown how long this will last (e-gift DL) – is to add $100 or IIRC I think you can load odd dollar amounts to Costco cash cards – if you did this over several store purchases mixed with other items – it might be safe???
Not sure if this has worked for people that have tried at Grocery stores that have mixed in purchases.
Not sure if USB gets L3 data – but Costco is also not an OSS or a Grocery store that are more typical GC outlets. New USB AR this year so I hav’nt played with it much. but with Exec Membership and RTR this combo might be closer to 15-17% off
BUT would love DP about GC at grocery stores as part of larger purchases, granted I think that large grocery (OSS) purchases are more likely to get a closer look than Costco purchases.
what is RTR?
“Real Time Rewards,” which credits back travel purchases you just made at 1.5 cent per pp.
Thanks
