What Counts As “Travel” For The Barclays Arrival

This page will list items that count as travel and can be redeemed for 1 mile = 1¢ and which don’t count as travel and can only be redeemed for 1 mile = 0.5¢ for the Barclay Arrival credit card.

Contact Barclays, in most cases they will be willing to make a one time exception if you could’ve legitimately thought it should be counted.

Counts As Travel

  • Booking.com: 1
  • Delta gift cards: 1, 2
  • Hotwire: 1
  • Lfyt rides: 1
  • MBTA Commuter Rail: 1
  • NYC Metrocard: 1, 2
  • Orbitz: 1
  • Priceline.com: 1, 2, 3, 4
  • Southwest gift cards: 1
  • Undercover tourist: 1
  • Viator (although they had some problems redeeming and had to call): 1, 2
  • WMATA (Washington DC Metro): 1

Doesn’t Count As Travel

Most of the trains in Europe will be coded as rail-freight instead of rail-passenger and as such won’t count as travel. This is because the businesses pay a lower credit card processing fee on rail-freight when compared to rail-passenger purchases.
