  • The discount will be applied to eligible item(s) only and will be capped at a value of $5. Eligible items exclude warranties and protection plans.

Our Verdict

This will only work on sellers who used eBay managed payment, that’s roughly 2,800 sellers. Unfortunately eBay doesn’t make it easy to search for just these sellers, basically if somebody accepts PayPal then they definitely aren’t an eBay managed seller. Interestingly this deal doesn’t exclude gift card purchases, but not sure if any eligible sellers sell those. Remember to use a shopping portal for your eBay purchases. Alternatively use our affiliate link. Card linked program Drop is also offering 100 points per dollar (worth $0.1 towards gift cards). Samsung Pay is also offering 5% back.

If anybody finds anything good around the $5 mark, let me know so I can add it to the post.

* Not working for me as of 10/4/18 4:45pm PST. *

Found a qualified seller but received the message below after using the PICKFIVE promo code.

“Unfortunately, this code no longer works. Please continue with your order.”

Bummer. Abort mission.

I eventually found a fidget cube (last one the seller had) for less than $0.50 after coupon and decided to get that, with just a few minutes before the deadline. Not the greatest deal since they can be had for around $2 on aliexpress, but at least this is with shipping from within the US included, instead of it taking a month.

For future reference, if you get an error trying to apply the coupon code, you probably have a saved credit card that needs you to re-verify the code on the back. (Those parts of the form should have no effect on each other, but they do.)

I just noticed that I misread the post… I thought it was a 1-day-only offer like most of the recent Ebay discounts have been. It was actually supposed to run Oct 3-5, and I thought it was Oct 3 only. But later reports indicate that it got shut down prematurely some time on Oct 4 (the code probably reached some secret usage limit), so I’m glad I got in on it when I did.

I wonder if this is a preliminary attempt by eBay to steer its users away from PayPal (which spun off from eBay) to eBay’s new backend Amsterdam-based payment processor “Adyen”.

Yes it is, and I welcome this transition with open arms.

For sellers:

1. Paypal is a pain in the ass to use and the transaction fees are very high. Paypal also loves to freeze, limit and hold your money completely arbitrarily.

2. the new payment system will result in lower transaction fees compared to paypal since ebay will now negotiate lower fees.

3. You will no longer need a paypal account to sell on ebay.

For buyers, not much changes. But as a sporadic ebay seller, i absolutely welcome this transition. I try to do as little business with paypal as possible except what is necessary. Paypal is by far my least favorite part of selling om ebay, and I want to get away from paypal as soon as i can.
