The Offer
- Via the Verizon app, get a $5 bonus e-gift card for purchasing a $25 e-gift card to Gamestop, AMC, Domino’s Pizza, and Cheesecake Factory.
- One $5 bonus per brand (Gamestop, AMC, Domino’s, Cheesecake).
Here’s a step-by-step walkthrough found on Slickdeals (for Android):
1. If haven’t already, download the Verizon Messages app (called Verizon Message+ on Apple store) . If it’s already installed, you need to make sure it’s fully updated.
3. When you Open the app, click accept. If you get a popup asking if you should make VZ messages your primary messaging app, click yes.
4. You’ll get another pop up (black window) advertising that you can buy eGCs through the app now. close this.
5. start a text message to yourself (probably need to send to a different #).
6. Click the Grey + sign on the bottom left. Click eGift (red icon of a giftbox)
7. It will say checking eligibility, then it will show a bunch of gift cards. Click on a brand. You’ll see some have the “promo” message next to the logo. Choose one of these.
8. Type whatever into the message. Pick a payment method (You can charge to your VZ bill or use a CC). Click purchase
9. It will ask you to type the zip code to confirm identity.
10. Should process and then notify you of success.
5x Rewards
Interestingly, it’s reported that you can get these e-gift cards billed to your Verizon bill, which should then earn 5x rewards with the INK cards.
Not only that, this may be a new 5x Anywhere scheme to buy gift cards via the Verizon app, even without any special promotions, to get the 5x rewards when it’s billed.
The big threshold is that you can only order $100 per line per month. And I don’t know how many gift card brands they carry.
Our Verdict
Not a big selection here, but still a good deal for these brands and hopefully a nice way of getting some bonus INK points through the app.
If I have Fios can I participate in this promo?
Do you know the limit is per verizon account or per line? Can me and my wife each get one gamestop? We are on the same account but each have our own phone.
You can send the gift to yourself, I just sent myself an Amazon card to test it out and it worked. I’m an Android verizon user.
Were you able to put the charge on your VZ bill?
yes
Am I correct in assuming that this is only available for Verizon wireless customers? How about people with Verizon landlines?
@Stephen Maybe it’s only on Android that the VZ billing option comes up? Seems odd, but who knows.
I’m not seeing an option to charge the cards to my Verizon bill using an iphone. I have the option of Apple Pay and adding a credit card. Any ideas? Any idea how purchases made with a credit card in the app would code?
Hmm, hopefully it will work at 5x. Let us know.
Which gift cards do they sell (aside from the sale)?
Answered my own question: merchant is braintreecgarge.com and codes as “business services – internet services” on amex.
So would that get you 5x on Ink?
AMC, Gamestop, Dominos, Cheesecake Factory, Starbucks, Amazon, Bestbuy, Amazon, Ebay, Home Depot, Applebees, Chili’s, Whole Foods, Gap, Nordstrom, Staples, Regal, Sephora, Banana, Nike, Sears, Lowes, Movietickets, Panera, AE, Hulu, California Pizza, Playstation, Rainforest Cafe, Morton’s, Foot Locker, iHop, Bass Pro, Bdubs, Red Robin, Cabelas, Old Navy, Express, Aero, Aerie, Children’s Place, Bubba Gump, Black Angus, O’Charley’s, Macaroni, Groupon, Spafinder, Nintendo, Guitar Center.
Are those all available for the 17% discount? Or only the 4 that Chuck listed?
Sale is just the 4.
Odd, I just installed the app, and while I got a promo screen about the gift cards and an eGift tab in the messages pane, there isn’t an option to send an eGift from the gray plus arrow
