It’s currently possible to get a 30,000 point bonus on the SPG personal card (and we are one of the few blogs to tell you about it!) I know that a lot of people applied for the 25,000 bonus when they changed the bonus to two free nights (25,000 bonus was still available via referral links). American Express doesn’t usually match sign up bonuses if you see an increased offer after you’ve already applied, but it is still possible to get some additional points (they’ll call them courtesy points). Here is what you’ll want to do:
- Don’t message, online representatives do not have the ability to award courtesy points.
- Call and say you’re disappointed that a new higher bonus became available so recently after you applied.
- The first representative will probably offer you 3,000 points. Ask politely to be escalated to a manager and repeat your disappointment in American Express due to the bonus change.
- The manager has the ability to award the 5,000 point difference, they won’t always offer it but they should offer at least something. Remember to stay polite but push for the full 5,000 point difference.
