$5 Off Any Gift Card
Gyft is a digital gift card website/app where you can manage and buy gift cards. They are currently running a special where you can get a $5 promotion credit towards any gift card purchase of $15 or more by simply opening an account. The good news is that Gyft sells gift cards to lots of top merchants, such as Amazon, Best Buy, Target and more. See the full list here.
To maximize the discount, we’d need to find a gift card which comes in a $15 denomination. Target does not, but Amazon, Best Buy, Sears, Kohl’s and many others do. Find yourself a gift card that interests you, and you’ll be able to buy it at a $5 discount.
Note: All gift cards sold on Gyft are e-gift cards, not physical gift cards. Most e-gift cards can be used in-store or online.
Note: It’s unclear how long this offer will be valid. If you get in on the offer now, the $5 Gyft promotional code will be valid for a few months. Mine has an expiration of February 25, 2015. In the current deal, it’s being reported that the $5 promo code expires after 24 hours.
Here’s how to take advantage of this promotion:
- Open a new Gyft account here. You can sign up with your email address (that’s what I did), or sign up with Facebook, Twitter or Google.
- After opening your Gyft account, the site will show you your $5 Gyft credit. You won’t see anything before you opened the account.
- Verify your email address. You won’t be able view or use the $5 credit until you verify your email address, by clicking on the link in the email they send you.
- Choose a gift card of $15 or more.
- Copy & paste the Gyft promo code (can be viewed on the home page on your Gyft account) into the Promo Code box.
- The $5 will come off, and you’ll pay the balance with Google Wallet, Paypal, or credit card.
$5 Toys R Us Promo
There’s another promo being run by Gyft in partnership with Google Wallet which can be used concurrently. This promo is not specific to new accounts.
Pay for your Gyft purchase using Google Wallet, and receive a $5 promotional credit to Toys R Us. After you complete your purchase, you’ll get an email from Gyft with a link to claim your Toys R Us promo code.
Note: This $5 credit in Toys R Us is only redeemable in-store through the Google Wallet mobile app. It does expire. Mine expires 1/31/2015.
Our Verdict
I purchased a $15 Amazon gift card for a cost of $10. I would have preferred a Best Buy gift card since I’m planning on making a purchase there soon, but I didn’t want to have to deal with cashiers who don’t always know how to process e-gift cards in-store. With an Amazon gift card, it was very easy to redeem into my Amazon account.
I paid with Google Wallet using my Discover card; I’ll get 5% cash-back since Discover is offering 5% back this quarter for online purchases. I could have probably gotten another 20 cents by going through a shopping portal, but I got lazy and didn’t do it this time.
I also got the $5 Toys R Us promo code saved in my Google Wallet, though I probably won’t end up using it.
