Hyatt Offering 10,000 World Of Hyatt Points On Non Refundable Reservations

As reported by Traveling for Miles Hyatt has announced that guests that have booked advance purchase rate non-refundable reservations on or before March 8th directly with Hyatt for travel by June 2020 will be eligible for 10,000 World of Hyatt points if they decide to cancel.

  • Guests holding [Advance Purchase rate] fully prepaid reservations who have decided not to travel may opt to receive 10,000 World of Hyatt bonus points compensation in lieu of their stay to use toward future travel at any of our 900+ hotels across 17 brands globally.
  • For full details and to make arrangements, guests can call one of our Global Contact Centers or email us at [email protected].
  • Guests must contact us at least 48 hours before their stay to elect this (World of Hyatt Explorists and Globalists must contact us at least 24 hours before their stay dates to elect this).
  • For interested non-members, colleagues will be able to quickly assist with enrolling the guest into World of Hyatt and creating a World of Hyatt account to deposit the points.

This is a huge gesture by Hyatt and shows why they are my personal favorite when it comes to hotel chains. In this case Hyatt would be well within their rights to not offer anything as these are clearly non refundable rooms but the fact they are offering 10,000 Hyatt points is huge. This is in stark contrast to United who is not offering refunds when they should be.

I have a Chase anniversary free night that I booked a stay in Hawaii with and then because of the coronavirus I canceled. It will expire soon and I called Hyatt to see if they would extend the date and they would not. Has anyone had any luck getting an extension on a free night certificate? Or would they give some points for it? Thanks!

Yes, actually it will be extended if you live in the APAC area. Other than that nope.

I got an understanding/sympathetic rep last night after two unsuccessful calls to Hyatt and one to Chase. She put in a ticket, told me to sit tight and wait (up to 2 weeks), and mentioned that she’s seen these certs being extended to the end of the year.

Then first thing this morning I got an email from the back end processing people saying that they don’t extend these certs… huge bummer 🙁 But given the range of things I’ve read and been told, I’m not ready to give up yet.

I called this morning and they refunded my entire three night booking. Really didn’t ask any questions just “let me check with the hotel to see what we can do” came back and said they are willing to refund your stay. Worth calling first. Yes it was an advanced purchase/ non refundable/no changes rate. called “discoverist line” from app. Hyatt is definitely my favorite too.

Was this a cash or award booking? I have a nonrefundable award booking in New Orleans during Jazz Fest weekend and am considering canceling the trip entirely.

Update: Called the Discoverist line as well, the agent proceeded to chat with the hotel’s staff, and he confirmed that I would be refunded. This was for nonrefundable rates for both award (both free night and points) and cash bookings. The free night and points returned to my account immediately.

Got connected to the hotel and they said Hyatt reserves the right to charge and will not issue a refund even though I said just don’t charge my card yet due to the uncertainty. I’m staying on the 22nd and the event might get cancelled. Calling the Discoverist line might help.

Marriott: To serve you better, our hotels will keep operating normally amidst Coronavirus fears, and will offer N95 masks for only $20 each.

I bet the masks have a 20% resort fee on top.

Good to see these nice gestures! I have a 200K hilton reservation from Mar. 15-20, the ddl for free cancellation is a month before check in, but when I called last Friday, they cancelled it for free!

I’m confused. Is this in lieu of a refund?

Yes.

I was a bit confused as well. The title made it seem as if Hyatt was giving out 10k points to people who book non refundable rates right now. if only that were the case…
