The Dupage Credit Union offers the Visa Platinum Credit Card. Let’s see if applying for this card makes sense in this honest review.
Card Basics
- Sign up bonus of 10,000 points after $3,000 in spend within the first 90 days
- No annual fee
- The card earns at the following rates:
- 5x points for charitable donations
- 2x points on gas stations and restaurants
- 1x point on all other purchases
- 0% introductory APR for 12 months on purchases made within first 90 days
- 0% introductory APR for 12 months on balances transferred within first 12 months (3% balance transfer fee). Also earn an additional 1x point per $1 transferred (minimum $1,500)
- 2,500 points for referring a friend to credit union (extra 1,000 if they get a card)
How Much Are Points Worth?
This is always the big question when a card earns points instead of cash back. It states the following:
earn a bonus 10,000 Choice Rewards Points redeemable up to $100 in cash-back rewards!
I’d assume this means points are worth 1¢ each when redeeming for a statement credit.
Eligibility Requirements
You must live or work in one of the following counties to be eligible:
- DuPage
- DeKalb
- Kane
- Kendall
- Lake
- McHenry
- Will
Or be part of one of the select employer groups.
Our Verdict
U.S. Bank FlexPerks is the best option for charity purchases/donations currently (3x points and points worth up to 2¢). I would jump on a card that earns 5x/5% back on charity purchases in a heartbeat as it would mean I could just donate an extra 5% to charity. 2x at gas stations & restaurants isn’t that attractive as some cards earn at a higher rate on all purchases.
If anybody signs up for this card, let us know if it’s a hard pull to join and also feel free to share your referral details in the comments.
