AmEx Business Platinum
I’ve been looking for credit card offers with high spend requirements due to a few large personal bills. I got the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business a few months ago and met that $30,000 spend requirement.
I then turned to the American Express Business Platinum card with up to 300,000 points bonus after $20,000 spend. The system said that for me the offer was 200k, not 300k. That was good enough for me and I got an instant approval. I’ve thus far spent $6,000 toward the minimum spend requirement.
AmEx Offer 17,000 Points
Today, I was poking around my AmEx Offers and noticed a ‘spend $17,000 and get 17,000 points’ offer which can be done three times and is valid through 5/5/26. Similar offers are common on the various Membership Rewards cards.
It’s even more interesting when it shows on the Blue Business Plus which earns 2x on all purchases or if it shows on the Business Platinum which earns 2x on all purchases $5,000+. Adding the extra 1x from the AmEx Offer, this becomes 3x anywhere on purchases $5,000+ on my Business Platinum card. A lot of people might have tax payments to make in the coming months, for example.
Even more notable, in my case, I still have around $14,000 to spend on the card to meet the signup bonus. For spending an extra $3,000 ($17,000 total), I’ll get 17,000 points from the AmEx Offer. Well worth it.
Capital One Spark Cash Plus
I haven’t yet finished the AmEx Business Platinum spend, but did try for one other large-spend card bonus with the Capital One Spark Cash Plus which earns $2,000 after spending $30,000. Unfortunately that card application was declined, and I don’t plan on calling in to reconsider.
One interesting tidbit with the Capital One application: I initially went through the preapproval process and they flagged me as eligible for their Business Everyday Rewards (a starter card with no signup bonus, “For Building Credit”) which I declined. I then went through the regular application and the system gave an auto-decline. The system then popped up with an offer to get the Business Everyday Rewards card instead, and I declined.
It might be that the preapprovals are actually a reliable indicator of whether the system will approve a card or not, and I could have saved myself a hard pull. Difficult to know for sure.
Other Offers
I can’t really find any other good large-spend offers. I’ve been thinking about doing the U.S. Bank Triple Cash and/or Leverage cards, but I’ve done a bunch of those already so might hold off.
With some more spend to do, maybe I’ll hit another one of the $17,000 AmEx Offers for a 3x earn – that offer can be done three times for 17,000 bonus points each round.
