Update 9/17/20: Walmart will go live 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET
Contents
The Offer
- Walmart:
- Amazon (our affiliate links):
- Target has now opened preorders for the PS5:
- Best Buy (our affiliate links):
- GameStop is also taking preorders in store
Our Verdict
I wouldn’t pre order with GameStop as they are basically meaningless. Use the target redcard to save a further 5%. Can try going through a portal as well. We will try to repost as soon as Amazon and other sites preorders go live.
PS5 or xbox???
PS5 this gen if you care about console exclusives that are almost all Japanese in origin. Xbox is apparently not doing any exclusives and is turning the Xbox into a console style PC which frankly just means you’re paying a premium for something that is easy to use, made for TV displays, but not upgradable.
They changed the Amazon links, just FYI
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-5-Console/dp/B08FC5L3RG/
It went OOS at the payment screen earlier and it moved the PS5 to the saved section. I kept refreshing the cart until the move to cart button showed up and I was able to place my order 5 minutes ago.
Got walmart PS5 in cart and got to checkout screen by 9:02 EST and it was already OOS.
keep trying, mine did that the first 4-5 times. shows ordered as of now
I used app and breezed through no problem. Thanks for heads up DoC. Now for the grueling decision on whether to keep this thing or to resell it.
Any staking suggestions to save on the PS5? I have 15% so far (10% cashback from a shopping portal ShopSmarter and 5% from the Chase Freedom Q4 category)
resell on these are ridiculous
No one has actually resold anything. So don’t trust those prices. If restocking (a BIG IF) happens between now and November, those prices will tank.
Target has preorders open again, just nabbed a disc version
Was curious and opened the page. Button was there to preorder. Clicked it and it was OOS. Now button is gone.
I know it’s easy to get sucked into the hype black hole, but imo it’s never a good idea to pre-order consoles (or games for that matter). It’s when consoles are at their most expensive (you can instead wait a few months for when the console is inevitably bundled with game(s) or other accessories), the launch version of a console is the most likely to have hardware defects, and the best games dont typically start coming until after a few months to a year, because developers will have had more time to make a game which uses all the console has to offer in terms of hardware.
Amen. Most of the bugs emerge within the first two weeks of console launch.
The early adopters are basically paying to be new product testers, which is great for content creation but not so great for actual long-term ownership of console.
As for me, I’m happy with my PC, since most of the games I care about either have or will have PC ports at some point.
This guy doesn’t remember when PS2 came out and if you weren’t on it immediately it was over a year before you could get your hands on one.
To be fair, I was a young Nintendo fanboy when the PS2 came out so you are correct in saying I do not remember.
I will disagree with you there – if i remember correctly, there havent been any significant widespread issues with the current generation of consoles (PS4, Slim, Pro; Xbox One, S, X, S all digital). all well and good to wait for discounts, bundles, revisions etc. But widespread defects are no longer a huge problem (knock on wood) esp with warranties and class action suits.
However, I agree with you on pre-ordering games.
Definitely wrong. I preordered 30 PS4s from Sears to flip (ahh back when Sears still sold remotely interesting items). I had 4 or 5 come back with the blue light of death. That was definitely a huge problem on launch.
PC and Switch gamer here. Preodered to resell first and foremost. I might also give it to a family member. Sony has indicated they are having CPU yield problems that is going to reduce their capacity. Of course they bumped capacity to meet an increased demand due to COVID, but I don’t think that’s going to change by Nov 12th frankly. Tack on a couple more factors here: 1.) people will not want to go around to stores due to COVID 2.) PS5 is easily the most desirable new console this holiday season due to actually having exclusives. I think considering all that, this as a good of a bet as any to hit PS2 level prices seen years back. I think those were going for around $800-1000 at the time? I’ll use the profit to build my son a budget gaming PC. 😀
Imagine bragging about being a scalper. You’re gross.
Lol. Spare me your judgement. You’re on the wrong site if you expect most people on here aren’t looking to resell this. Sorry you can’t take the time to actively watch and get your hands on a singular PS5 for your own personal use. I did, so I’m entitled to sell it for whatever someone is willing to pay me for it. Anxious console gamer fan boys getting all pissy about the natural consequences of companies doing launches with short supplies won’t deter me or anyone else.
You have the freedom/right to do whatever you want with it, but it’s still scummy. Your lack of any shame/guilt says a lot.
Yes it says I don’t have any shame because I have a pretty strong moral and ethical compass that rightly doesn’t see a problem with making money on a product only truly affordable to well off upper middle class and rich people. Not that it really matters but I bought “1” so you guys have much better targets for your ire. I’m not crashing websites and draining inventory with bots even though I could write one of those from scratch if I wanted to. If you find my desire to make $400 – $500 off a video game console that is a complete luxury item to be scummy and bad, there’s a whole lot of people out there you need to hate. Let’s see… anything related to collecting art, antiques, cars, beanie babies, rare toys, hallmark trinkets, comics, yugi-oh cards, tickets.. since, you know, anyone that buys and sells anything at a big profit is scummy right? I doubt you care about these things, since what really bothers you is you can’t get a video game console you want because there’s a supply shortage. I actually get that… I REALLY wanted a Nvidia GTX 3080 for my PC and even took time to get ready to jump on the pre-order, but talk about a supply shortage… one of those just went for $70k today when the retail price is $600. Talk about crazy. And yet I’m not running around like a spoiled brat complaining that I can’t get my perfect upgrade to run my games at 4k instead of the horror of having to continue to use my lowly 4 year old graphics card in 1080p because of scummy resellers. I’m pissed with Nvidia for a paper launch and being too lazy to take any steps to put any effort into preventing reseller cartel bots. You should be pissed the PS5 launch was a complete debacle. Also, you should be pissed at Sony for not offering more units to current PS4 owners. You’re really wasting your time yapping at some guy on the internet trying to make some money to build his kid a budget gaming PC. Also, there’s a real chance with the simultaneous release of the new Xbox and PS5 supply will flood ebay on Nov 12th and nobody will make any money. Meanwhile I’m fairly certain the cheaper and better performing Founder Edition RTX 3080 will be something I’ll never be able to get my hands on. It’ll be okay.
If I pre-ordered through Walmart with a chase freedom card, it should qualify for the 5% back next quarter since the PS5 won’t ship until early November right? Or will Walmart charge me now? I see the pending transaction on my Chase account but wasn’t sure if that’s a hold and the transaction actually goes through when it’s ready to ship.
Whenever the charge posts.
Amazon sold out lightning fast. My god
Reselling groups.
