What’s The Matter With Lonely Planet? by Nomadic Matt. I think the biggest problem for Lonely Planet is the rise of internet and mobile internet in general, I’d much rather read a blog that was written a few months ago about how to get from A to B cheaply than go with a Lonely Planet recommendation that might not have been updated for years and doesn’t take current conditions into account. The other problem I’ve always had with LP is just the amount of people using it, that local bar that used to be quirky and a bit different? As soon as it hits LP then it obviously changes, that’s something that’s unavoidable unless you just don’t use mainstream guides.
