According to reddit user shawnwahi (who has shared accurate news in the past) American Express & Delta plan to launch a new premium cobranded credit card that will sit above the the Delta Reserve. The Delta Reserve already has a $650 annual fee so it will be interesting to see what annual fee this new card has and what benefit are offered. American Express previously teased that changes were being made for the Platinum & Business Platinum cards (non-Delta).
It will probably mirror the Air Canada Card.

Nooooo I want it to be public and not this invitation only!
I don’t think many people here realize most credit cards holders are not churners like us. People hold the Amex plat / Centurion / Reserve as a status symbol. They don’t care about the benefits, they just want to look wealthy. The Banks are not making much money off most of us on DoC, but the people who want to use it at status? They Pay the fee, they pay interest, they spend all on 1 card. The cards are built to monotize those people. Remember, if everyone is elite, no one is elite. If everyone has status, no one has status.
Hasn’t been true in my experience. Most, if not all, people I’ve spoken with that have annual fee cards are paying it off on time and in full. And from the plat holders that I know, they all get the card for specific benefits, and not so much because of points earning, but they do aim to spend most on one card. So I imagine that the banks would rather entice people with good perks and as long as people justify spending X amount of dollars for hotel status, then we’re all happy. Its only the optimizers that are nit picky.
No one is going to say they’re buying a Louis Vuitton bag as a status symbol, they’re going to say they love the design and quality of it.
I’m holding amex business platinum not because of the symbol, but I need it for my business purchase, with no spending limit, I can easily put 80-100k per month and still keep using it, pay it off every billing statement. No hurt to personal credit, no need to ‘top-up’ because reaching the limit. No others credit card can do that, not even close.
I really don’t care about the annual fee, I write-off the annual fee to my company, I just want Amex adds Hyatt as their transfer partner, I think it’s possible, even newcomer like Bilt can add Hyatt (if you compare Bilt portfolio with Amex) so you know the problem is not with Hyatt.
Speaking for myself, I got taken by social media influencers and advertising on Reels, YT, etc. What I’ve learned the hard way:
These are just my own assessments based on my personal experiences over the last 10-15 years.
“Amex Delta Reserve Super Max+? Looks like the CC issuers’ modeling their business based on that “Past Covid” South Park Special.
It’s so “Super Max+” that you need to have an address in Florence CO to be able to apply!
I am sure it will be swell
How many pages will the new coupon book have?
64
We’re absolutely in the race to the bottom phase of things
This is actually the reverse. Race to the bottom implies commoditization where people aren’t willing to pay more for features and only want the lowest price.
With higher fee, Amex is going for more finer grain market segmentation to address the need of richer demographic.
I really do wonder if the wealthy has time or even cares about min-maxing credit cards and taking full advantage of credits.
No, I agree, they don’t care, hat’s why Amex is doing it. If the cardmember can have one big carrot, let’s say MQMs, they know a lot of these customers won’t go out of their way to use the coupons….
Again, amex platinum cards arent targeting rich people. Rich people dont use credit cards or wait july first to get the best $49.98 deal on saks5thave
MQMs? That’s so 2023… all about them MQDs, son…
This rumor is almost as exciting as the rumors from last week about the CSR.
Calling it now, this one is going to give you Delta Silver status.
Delta Silver comes with the card; spending XXX amount can get you to Gold. May also includes unlimited visits to Sky Club and other monthly coupons.
I’d love an airline card that comes with automatic status like hotel cards do, but silver isn’t cutting it for me. I already have platinum status just by using my Reserve, so if I’m going to pay more for a card, I want to keep my Platinum status automatically with a pathway to Diamond status if I meet certain spending thresholds.
I could see Gold status. Delta is not gonna give platinum when you need to have a 5k a year centurion. I want to see a 5:1 MQD ratio instead of 10:1 on reserve would be amazing haha. That would put it close to the spend $25k waiver days and get gold with a 2500 MQD boost then you are basically there to platinum. $1295 fee. But yes I can see your silver for 5000 MQD boost but agree need some faster way to platinum been since 2018.
Has to be at least $1000, if you have all 4 Delta cards it’s $1000 for 10k MQD … Gold. Feel they would make it more and give some coupons or unlimited Delta lounge access or maybe Delta one 4 lounge passes when flying first domestically or some VIP section in the lounge like the centurion does for their black card members.
Silver doesn’t cut it for me either. If I’m willing to.”pay up.sucka” then at least give me the goods – gold minimum
I think maybe higher than silver but $1000 price tag
this may be an upcoming trend that airlines “sell” higher status with cards that are way overpriced.
i just dont understand the case for DL in north america. i guess for many pple its a hub and logistics must be supreme. but the crazy cash grabs and devals are too extreme.
altho UA and AA are not amazing either. im still tolerant. and amex CC slots are limited. cant be wasting on DL line up.
I have both UA and DAL cards for the free check-in (I easily use $300+ in check-in fees a year) and I’m consistently finding much better redemptions on Delta mile redemptions with the Takeoff 15 benefit. I find United redemptions to be the least compelling, with American undefeated. Just redeemed 24K AA miles for a $410 flight the other day.
Airlines are monopolies at this point. Your closest hub mostly determines the airline you fly, with few exceptions.
What cash grabs? Delta is far and away the best airline in North America.
Isn’t the timing of the leak coincidental? Just like the end of the year refresh announcement on the Amex Platinum. Blah, blah, blah.
