According to Travel With Grant Capital One is planning to launch a premium credit card in quarter two of 2020. The expected benefits and fees are as follows:
- 10X points per dollar on hotels booked through the Capital One portal
- 5X points per dollar on airfare booked through the Capital One portal
- 4X points per dollar at restaurants
- 1X points per dollar on all other purchases
- Additional point bonuses at certain spend thresholds
- $300 travel credit
- $495 annual fee
You’d assume that points would also transfer to travel partners. The full list of current transfer partners is below (2:1.5 unless otherwise stated)
- Aeromexico
- Aeroplan (Air Canada)
- Alitalia
- Avianca
- Cathay Pacific
- Emirates (2:1 rate)
- Etihad Airways
- EVA Air, Finnair
- Flying Blue (Air France and KLM)
- Hainan Airlines
- JetBlue (2:1 rate)
- Qantas
- Qatar Airways
- Singapore (2:1 rate)
Overall this new premium card doesn’t look that attractive. You can usually get a better discount/reward than 10x back on hotels and the other categories are only OK. It might still be worth signing up for if the sign up bonus if large enough but that remains to be seen. I have no idea how likely this card/rumor is to come true because I don’t know the original source, but I trust Travel with Grant to say that it’s reliable information.
