[Rumor] U.S. Bank Smartly Visa Credit Card To Be Discontinued

Update 3/14/25: Reddit user Careless_Trash7702 was told that applications for the card will be down for 3-4 weeks while it’s being reworked. My understanding is that if you apply now they can’t change the terms/benefits for a full 12 months but YMMV.

File this under rumors, but a reddit user was told by a branch rep that they received an e-mail on Monday stating they could no longer apply for the U.S. Bank smartly card in branch and were surprised it was still available online (confirmed by another user). Another reddit user spoke to underwriting and were told this card would be discontinued in about a month. Another user was told that product changes were suspended. U.S. Bank also tighten the fee waiver requirements on the Smartly checking account and has sent out e-mail to some cardholders regarding business purchases.

For this to be true U.S. Bank must be losing a lot of money on this card already as the card was only launched in November, 2024.

Anyone knows when does US Bank report to credit bureaus? Does it report the statement balance or does it report the balance on the day it reports? thanks.

I’ve been trying to PC my Altitude Go to Smartly, and the agents keep denying saying I don’t have that offer. I’ve read some dps of people doing it, but I guess this is also at a pause currently?

USB is known for nerfing offers because its estimates of how people will use a product are overly rosy compared to actual usage. Please see Cash+ for an example of the previous nerfing, or see Altitude Reserve.

Altitude reserve has not been nerfed. Only buffed

Hmm, I just received Cash+ on 3/10 and qualified for their $200 bonus after $1,000 spend. Please explain?

This seems like a lucrative move that could bank USB millions, if not billions, of dollars. They probably knew the market would dip and created a new product, Smartly Card, to attract people put money into USB. Then use the money to buy the dip and sell when the market is bullish. I predict that’s when they’ll discontinue this product, but hope my prediction is wrong.

He’s saying what banks already do; use money in accounts to invest into the markets. He’s specifically saying they used this 4% card to attract people into settling 100K+ into their accounts which allowed them to invest into the market which is currently pooping itself. They bought the dip.

You over estimate the banks ability to be smart
