Our Verdict

This is the first time we’ve seen an award sale like this from Southwest as far as I remember. Southwest has a great change and cancellation policy so speculative bookings using this promo code could make more sense. It’s a shame that the booking and travel window is so short, but hopefully we see more of these in the future from Southwest.

Mixed feelings on this. Is it nice? I guess so. But it also seems to be encouraging air travel in the next 45 days, and it’s still a bit too soon to be making trips in my opinion. If you’re already traveling for work, then you’re probably not paying with points. I dunno.

“travel until October 31”

that’s pathetic

Just booked a flight with 16,000 points 09/14 , checked today and the flight now costs 20,000 points. There aren’t limited seats, the price just went up the exact amount of the discount.

The first sentence may be true. The second sentence is *false.* I rebooked a number of my flights today and indeed received a 20% discount. Please don’t draw overbroad conclusions.

This is almost certainly merely a coincidence. I rebooked 2 flights that were the same price, and then got the additional 20%. Southwest has many “buckets” of fares, chances are after your purchase the price went up and just happened to be the same amount as the discount would be.

Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?
