State Of Credit 2013

State of Credit is a fun little thing that Experian has been doing for the past four years. It’s basically an interactive map that shows VantageScore data. You can segment by generation (66+, 47-65, 30-46 & 19-29) and you can also zoom in on the map to further drill down. Minnesota has 4 out of the top 10 cities with the best average score. Wisconsin is in a close second with three cities.

Some interesting averages

  • VantageScore®: 681
  • Debt: $27,887
  • Number of Bankcards: 2.19
  • Balance on Bankcards: $4,501
  • Credit Utilization (%): 30.0%

If we know the average balance on bankcards and the average credit utilization we can have a guess as to what the average credit limit is $4,501 * 3.33 = $14,988.33 (assuming utilization isn’t counting things like mortgages and auto loans).
