Our Verdict
Whenever these deals come along the general consensus is that the wine is low quality even for the low price. Doesn’t seem to be anyway to stack this deal due to the terms.
I just got $30 back for $30 spend on my Amex Delta Gold card. The cheapest bottles were $11.99-$12.99, and I used a coupon code WINEMAS8 for 35% off. After the Amex rebate I’ll get three bottles of cheap wine for $10.66 total. The rebate is good 3x.
Never mind, it voids the Amex offer when you apply a coupon code. I should have read the fine print. I ended up ordering half a dozen $12 bottles of wine for $12 each. I suppose there are worse life lessons.
There is a similar AmEx offer for Wine Insiders and it nicely stacks with Groupon deal — paying S&H of $30+ does trigger the offer. For example, one can buy a groupon for 15 Bordeaux wine bottles for ~$70 (with 25% off coupon or Groupon Select membership) at https://www.groupon.com/deals/n-bordeaux-red-wines-wine-insiders and then pay S&H of $29.99 + tax (in my case it was ~$35) at WineInsiders to trigger the offer. It gives 15 Bordeaux wine bottles for a total of ~$80.
Also, one can use shopping portal and/or discounted groupon gift card for additional discount (up to ~20% in my experience) at Groupon to drop the total cost to ~$65.
P.S. There are many other Groupon deals for different kinds of wine at WineInsiders. Also, if one has a higher spend requirement for AmEx offer, it may be possible to met it with an upgrade while redeeming groupon at WineInsiders – for example, for the above Bordeaux deal it is offered to upgrade it with extra 6 bottles for extra $60.
For Macy’s there’s a subscription that you can sign up for and then cancel after the first shipment. First shipment is $50 for 6 bottles and free shipping. After Amex offer becomes 6 bottles for $25 + tax and free shipping.
Isn’t there usually a Swagbucks deal for Martha Stewart wine? I know I’ve seen it in the past…
Haven’t had a Total Wine Amex offer in a while. Total Wine is so much better than pretty much all the other wine retailers that regularly get Amex offers.
TotalWine gift cards are currently 10% off at eGifter.
Actually looks like you can get some extra cashback via LeMoney…depends on how many boosts you have. If you are new to LM and can install the browser extension you get 2 boosts, meaning 7.4% extra cash back on top of it. Thanks
Max this really helps for us
I saw the offers, added them and now they are gone. WTF!
Same…… ugh
Buying a single $15 bottle for ~$5 (with s&h included) would be great, but their 3-bottle minimum ruins the deal.
I got this offer and the Macy’s win offer but of course they don’t ship to Hawaii. The ones with outstanding offers never ship to me only the mediocre ones.
I had a similar offer for Macy’s Wine, which includes Martha Stewart Wine. 3 bottle minimum with shipping nearly $30 after the $25 off, for the cheapest. Hard pass. 6 bottles with free shipping, is still nearly $50 or $8+ a bottle for something you can buy for less.
I had both offers and was able to add both. $180 of crappy wine for $30 is fine by me.
How are you getting $180 for $30 if the promo packages are excluded? Thanks.
Added Macy’s
Agreed. My experience with these clubs is that the wine they sell for $13-$20 a bottle is probably worth max $5 a bottle. These deals allow you to get their wine for about $8 a bottle like you say but it is not really a great deal. You can get better or similar wine in Trader Joes for less.
The Winc Amex offer for $15 off $50 is better, as you can stack this with $30 cashback from swagbucks and their general $20 off promo. This allows you to get 5 bottles of OK wine for about $5. Although with swagbucks, there is always a ~25% risk the cashback doesn’t pay out.
Macywine has similar Amex offer.
