Our Verdict

There’s currently a 5% online offer available to everyone which ends today. This new offer runs December 1 – 31. I got this via email, haven’t yet seen anyone else report it so it might be highly targeted or getting rolled out slowly. Looks like it’s 4x bonus points on top of the regular 1x earn. Max this out with $200 of spend. Not a major deal, but it’s something.

The definition of grocery stores seems pretty broad. I unexpectedly got credit for purchases at a few different online vitamin/health food stores (Vitacost, Lucky Vitamin, etc.) that show up in my transaction history as “Merchandise – Misc Food Store, Specialty, Convenience.”

I was originally using these purchase as “online purchases” for the other promo, and I ended up getting this category bonus as well.

Note that this was for my Citi Simplicity that got the offer (by mail) as 5% cash back through 1/31/21 (max $25) in the same categories as in this post (plus restaurants). The letter mentions “curbside pickup and online delivery” under grocery, but I’m still surprised to see these online vitamin/health food stores count.

@Chuck- I Think the maximum for this deal is 1000 bonus points- not 1000 total points. So the maximum total spend would be $250, not $200 (Since its 4 bonus pts/dollar).

Thanks for alerting us to this!!

Got this on Preferred, 11/21/20 through 1/31/21, for up to 2500 points (so minor change from the above). Same categories. Not really useful to me given the Chase bonuses in play right now.

I received the offer and it appears that there is no enrollment required as in prior offers like this. At least I didn’t see an enrollment link or code in my email. Did anybody get anything different in their email?

Also got this offer, no link to enroll. Didn’t say anything about it being automatic. Confusing.

I got a letter in the mail with a similar cashback version of the offer for Citi Simplicity card. It requires enrollment.

+1. Two years in a row now. Year before that it was 5% categories. I think I see why they keep trying to switch me to Rewards+ instead as with the targeted offers and Citi easy deals gift cards I think they lose money on me.
