The Offer

  • Southwest is offering some members 5,000 bonus points when they complete two round flights (or four one way flights) by May 31, 2021. Must register by May 31, 2021.

Our Verdict

Not as good as the companion pass offer, might as well register if you qualify.

I received an email about this promotion, but when I click on the “register” button in the email, it takes me to my Southwest My Account page, and there isn’t anything there about the promotion. How do I register?

Nice that you can do 4 one-ways, we always book each leg individually

Does that actually save you money?

It makes it easier to change one leg. Which usually Happens and get a credit for the price change. And makes it easier to Skiplag. But then my FF account isn’t linked anyway.

I’ve always done this as well for trip maintenance purposes.

With Southwest especially, if the price of a segment drops or you need to change part of your trip for any other reason (moving up a departure to an earlier time or switching to a later arrival option that’s made available after your original booking, for example), it’s easy to just maintain one segment versus changing the whole trip.

In that sense, it doesn’t cost more but offers extra flexibility.

Same, also, at least for me I noticed one major difference in the clarity on the cost of a flight.

If I book as 1 itinerary, I often can’t instantly figure out what the price for 1 leg was, so it’s harder to know if the price dropped in order to rebook at the better fare. Since noticing that, I’ve started with 1-way bookings. …(note, maybe I’m just too dumb, but I’ve looked in the portal and emails in the past and i prefer to have all of my views show the discrete and accurate price for each leg).

Agree. The downside is Amex Hilton (I think) gives you extra trip insurance benefits but has to be for round-trip flights. I may hav we this very wrong.
